A part of the reason for the decline are crime rates are very high and people do not feel safe going there. Partly due to the large group of youths hanging around the area and especially the shopping areas. This is a shame as both Lewisham and Catford could be great places to live and visit again if regenerated and the Government and Local Authortities tackle the problems of crime and youth crime/antisocial behaviour properly. I left Colfe's in 1955 and never been back due to work commitments and relocating, but I did think about one last visit. As I remember the Admin and Head Masters Study (H Beardwood, Esq.,), Assembly Hall and Library were all lovely old buildings and suitable for conversion to accomodation. Albeit the rest of the school buildings were prefabs courtesy of Hitler. Some of thw Brewery chains like Wetherspoons for example could open some in the old closed down pubs in and around the area. Lets hope we get some soon so we can have good nights outs at the weekend in safe well managed pubs and clubs. We do not all want trouble we agree. Most folk in there are between 18-30 anyway so try it out now that Yates,s is closed (thank god) Pool table, good food, good music and a very very nice place to relax with leather seats etc..
