Woolwich Woolwich and Thamesmead Fraud

Does the fact that Woolwich (SE18) and Thamesmead (SE28) always seem to get included in lists of fraud hotspots impact peoples daily lives in any way? (Police presence, property values, insurance premiums, etc?)

Woolwich How is the area around QEH?

How is the area around Queen Elizabeth Hospital as far as safety living? Is it affordable? What kind of housing is around there? What is your opinion for the hospital? What is your opinion about the region around it? How much money do you need to be able to sustain normal life in that area? I would appreciate if someone would answer my questions. Thank you.

I work at the QE hospital. It is very clean .I have also had the misfortune of being an in patient for many months during the last 6 years. Any hospital is as you find it at the time and so your experiences could be good or bad. As a patient in cardiac my experiences of care were excellent . However A and E can be a struggle as many locals use it as a doctors surgery.
Many doctors and nurse live in the blocks in the surrounding areas .

Woolwich moving to woolwich

I am thinking of buying a flat in woolwich. Can it be so bad? No go day and night? I was there today and didn't feel like I was in a ghetto. It definitely felt a bit run down but surely it's not that bad?

Woolwich

Hi, I actually think Woolwich is not too bad. I am female and mid-twenties and often have to walk home in the dark, and have not yet had any trouble (been living here a year). Some areas are worse than others and there are estates to avoid but I think overall for the price of property, and investment potential I think it is worth it.

Woolwich Woolwich

Like many parts of London, Woolwich can vary a lot from street to street. There are parts I wouldn't go day or night, parts I wouldn't go at night, and parts I am happy to be at any time. Most of Woolwich is very definitely "urban" (and not "suburban") and has the problems and challenges urban areas face. It depends on which part of Woolwich you are looking, your budget and your lifestyle.

I have been in the area for over 10 years, and the big downside is that during that time Woolwich has almost exclusively been on a downwards spiral (OK there are a few exceptions) and I use the town centre less and less and never use it socially. On the upside, there are some new developments and the DLR should start to improve things, but there is a long long way to go.

Woolwich continued

Right now, there are probably areas close by which offer better value for money and a better quality of life (areas south, south east, and south west of Woolwich), or you may strike lucky and settle in a nice house with good neighbours and an easy journey to work as we did.

Personally I would not buy down by the river, as being at the base of the valley the air can get very stifling, hard to breathe and feel very polluted when the weather is warm and still (not really a problem this year!! ;-) ), but that is more of a personal thing related to my own health. There is definitely more "air" on the slopes south of the town centre.

It probably all depends on what you want and what you need, if you're thinking for the short or long term, and you will have to trust your instinct.

Woolwich Please don

Please don't spam this board with your reqests for Thamesmead West - This forum is about WOOLWICH like it says at the top of the page.

You seem to have found the "Suggest a New Forum" page as well and you have submitted your request there. If somebody is reading and moderating this site, let them read it there and take action if they want. If they do, good for you, if they dont too bad but please dont keep on spamming this board!

Post reply -->London Woolwich 29 Jun

Woolwich

spamming is when you request to all areas . This is not what I have done. West Thamesmed is next door to Woolwixch as you know and so our representation is limited to either posts at Woolwich or Plumstead as the adjacent towns. Apologies if you are offended but we havent got any representation and our request by moderators have been ignored since the Thamesmead sites on this forum are inaccessible for some reason.

Woolwich Regeneration

We are really looking forward to the continued regeneration of Woolwich Town Centre and the Thames Gateway. As the area is in desperate need of regeneration and being brought back to life with new shops, businesses, private and affordable housing We are also looking forward to the opening of the new Woolwich Arsenal DLR Station and improved bus services and new bus routes in the area linking the Woolwich area with the rest of the Borough of Greewich and surrounding boroughs. It is now time for change and build for a better future.

Woolwich

I agree. I was born and raised in this area and Woolwich was the best shopping centre in the 60's with fantastic clothes in the covered market . Woolwich always had great shoe shops too. Regeneration will revitalise the area . We need a good cafe culture and restaurants . I now live in West Thamesmed ( see post above - the Thamesmead forum is inaccessible now!). After a few difficult years W T mead has emerged on top, apart from some BTL problems at some river front apartments the rest of W T mead is brilliant and GREEN. I love it !

Woolwich Woolwich & West Thamesmead

Yes I agree. I think both areas will become one large linked area by the time all the rengeneration building work on the Woolwich Arsenal site including the planned hotel and the all new housing and retail units are finished in the area. Woolwich has needed to be regenerated for years and I hope it will again become a good shopping centre with a good market, cafes and restaurants. I also hope shops will open until at least 8 or 9 pm in the evenings on Monday to Saturdays and at least 10 until 4 on Sundays so local people can shop after work or with their families or partners. Woolwich needs to become a good area for families to visit rather than the no go area it has been allowed to become in recent years.

Woolwich

I am worried that the planned huge Tesco will just suck all remaining life out of the high street and local shops. Woolwich also needs more than shops, cafes and restaurants. It needs jobs and not just low paid ones.

Woolwich Regeneration

The Woolwich and Thames Gateway regeneration can only be good for Woolwich and the surrounding areas. The new facilities including the new DLR Station at Woolwich Arsenal must be easy accessible by public transport from all areas over the Borough. Sadly Parts of Eltham and Kidbrooke including Kidbrooke Rochester Way have no direct bus services to Woolwich. Young people are missing out on the employment opportunities on the Woolwich and Thames Gateway regeneration projects now and in the future due to poor transport and bus services in the Eltham and Kidbrooke areas.

Post reply -->London Woolwich Graham Justine 21 Mar

Woolwich Improving

Woolwich is improving with major regereneration to the area. The new DLR Station at Woolwich Arsenal and new housing. The safety issue needs to be tackled as sadly groups of gangs are in the area many of whom come from the ethnic minorities. The do gooders, Police and Local Authority (Greenwich Council) need to tackle this problem head on. We should not allow them to spoil Woolwich and surrounding areas for others so they are scared to go out or get public transport after dark any longer. Woolwich can be a nice area again. I am really looking forward to the regeneration to be completed.

so am i we can tackle the small number of so call idots who want to spoil woolwich and plumstead, the police and community services are doing a good job to get them off our streets. and what a wonderful thing regenarating woolwich, new transport, shops, cinema, resturant we will not have to go west end, only for sales, and change of senery .

Woolwich Royal Arsenal Development OK?

Do the flats and houses on the Royal Arsenal devlopment suffer from same problems and negative equity like the flats in West Thamesmead shown on TV on Panorama again last night? They are only 1-2 miles along the river.

I think that is the second time West Thamesmead has been on Panorama in 6 months and things look really bad there.

We are thinking about moving to the area when my partner moves back to this country later in the year.

I have lived in a stunning Warehouse Conversion for 3 years. It is gated and very safe. with a24 hour Conciege.as well as a Gym and excellent Cafe/deli
The river bus stops right outside the door and is 10minto Canary Wharf. Woolwich is not good for Resturants but Greenwich and Blackheath are close by

Woolwich 10 mins to Canary Wharf - Wrong!

The claim that the river bus takes 10 minutes from Woolwich Royal Arsenal to Canary Wharf is wrong and misleading - it takes 25-30 minutes.

Greenwich and Blackheath are both about 5 miles away too.

Or does it depend on the tide - it can make a heck of difference.

Woolwich Tide?

I think the restaurants of Greenwich and Blackheath are the same distance away whatever the tide is doing ... ;-) (and let's be honest - not exactly on your doorstep if you live in Woolwich).
