Post or Ask something here in 'Woolwich' WoolwichHi, I would like to buy a property and it seem that some of the cheapest places are around the woolwich and plumstead area. i heard that these are not nice areas but understand that peoples' opinions differs. It would be nice to hear the opinions of those who actually live in these areas. I would also like to know what are some of the best parts to live. I like open space, greenery, parks and water. Thanks. Post reply -->London Woolwich rosamond07@yahoo.co.uk 7 Dec Should we remove this post ? Woolwich Two thingsFirst, Woolwich may be dreary but it is definitely not unsafe! I am a female living here for 4 years now; I've been out on my own at all hours. It's odd but I sometimes feel that if something were to happen to me in Woolwich, people would help I am looking for a gym buddy to go to Fitspace on weekends! I am overweight and don't like gyms so would really be grateful for the company Mail-me Post reply -->London Woolwich Nichi 16 Nov Should we remove this post ? Woolwich WoolwichWhoever said it's unsafe lies I live in a gated development but have walked around woolwich in the dark without ever having any problems except being pestered or chatted up by men that I didn't know. My reply was to say I was meeting my husband it always worked Mail-me Post reply -->London Woolwich Gabriella 27 Sep Should we remove this post ? ^ Woolwich Not unsafe but you do need street credI wanted to add to an earlier post. Woolwich isn't unsafe but it can be rough around the edges. Although it has started to improve depends where you are coming from retail wise it's pretty rank. Costa Coffee had two shops in woolwich one closed to become a pawn shop, Top Shop had a store that went, Body Shop, Game and Nationwide and Pizza Hut have gone. Shopping is poor here. It is OK to live, it's green and friendlish but personally if you want character and value for money live here otherwise head to Eltham which has a Next and much better Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's for starters Post reply -->London Woolwich Gabriella 1 Dec Should we remove this post ? Woolwich What is it like living in Woolwich in 2011? More specifically, in the Royal Arsenal development?I am about to move to Woolwich, near the Royal Arsenal development by the river front. I have heard Woolwich suffers from crime - what is it actually like living there? I would really appreciate comments from locals, and more specifically, people living in the Royal Arsenal development? Thanks you!! Post reply -->London Woolwich Danny 24 Sep Should we remove this post ? ^ WoolwichHi, I lived in Royal Arsenal from Apr until Dec 2008 (they were still renovating it). The area outside the Royal Arsenal was a bit dodgy but I never experienced or witnessed anything awful. Although the Royal Arsenal itself is wonderful, if you wanted to go out you would have to go to London (or Greenwich, the closest best place to go out). I don't know how it panned out after the DLR station was built, I left a little before that. The only thing I can tell is that you couldn't find a decent pub anywhere in the vicinity. And the one in the Royal Arsenal was not completely open and didn't have enough buzz to draw us to it. Hope it helps. Woolwich Maritime House, Greens EndHi everyone I'm thinking of moving in to a flat in Maritime House, located next to Marks and Spencers in Woolwich. Can anyone tell me what is it like in Maritime House and the area around it? Post reply -->London Woolwich Kieran 30 Mar Should we remove this post ? ^ WoolwichPersonally, I would not move there. There have been a lot of repossesions in the building and the conditions are not great. High repo rate will have an impact on your mortgage and insurance rates. Sadly, a lot of the new builds in Woolwich are blighted like this. Post reply -->London Woolwich 19 May Should we remove this post ? ^ Woolwich nandos and new pub have openednandos has now being fitted out in a really nice funky way. Also the dial arch pub on the royal arsenal has now opened which is somewhere that you can really go out to for the evening. Hurrah Hurrah. I went there last night. It had been open 2 days and many that walked in the door was saying wow at last and practically kissing the staff. The decor is fab including the loos!! But it is suitably not stuffy with it; I think it will probably be a pub where professionals feel welcome and comfortable but where anyone at all should feel welcome to go to. Seemed a real mixed bunch last night which is how woolwich should be i guess. Post reply -->London Woolwich 1 Jul Should we remove this post ? Woolwich great places to eat during the dayFriends cafe - ran by an italian. I think. homemade lasagne, moussaka , jacket potatoes. for woolwich has a really nice feel to it. on the way to sainsburys (if you approach it from behind!) Friend's cafe 2 Barnard Close London SE18 6JQ Also if you are around during the week and fancy excellent very good value homemade food (like your mum used to make!) go to CJs Cafe 147-151 Powis Street London SE18 6JL CJs is rather a special place and is ran by the camden society who manage cafes all over london for people with learning disabilities to work in. What the cafe lacks in the charms of its physical surroundings (the ground floor of a municipal building) it makes up with in its amazing food, and smiley very enthusiastic and talented staff. One of my clients is very local and we get regular takeaways and can not believe the standard of food for the price. A main meal costs between £3.30 and £3.85. Woolwich Considering a move to Royal ArsenalIm considering a move to Royal Arsenal with my girlfriend but im concerned at the surrounding area outside of the gated complex and the station. Is the area safe during the day? Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks Post reply -->London Woolwich 1 Nov Should we remove this post ? ^ WoolwichIt depends how you define "safe". Woolwich is probably as "safe" as other London areas like New Cross, Peckham etc which probably means you would be fairly "safe" if you concentrate on getting between the gated development and the station and do not hang around. Avoid making the same walk at quiet times and definitely not after dark alone, and definitely do not just hang around anywhere in Woolwich. Woolwich is pretty scary but I have lived there for a few years (not in gated part) and not had any problems. Post reply -->London Woolwich 4 Jan Should we remove this post ? ^ Woolwich"Do not hang around anywhere in Woolwich....?". Why not- what will happen to you? I have lived around this area for the last seven years (originally from Sutton, Surrey) . I was more frightened walking in Sutton (due to drunken middle class yobs) than I have ever been in Woolwich. I think whoever posted this needs to have a reality check. Woolwich is a predominantly working class area with a good ethnic mix. I wonder if it is this fact that made you leave your comments- In which case you should move to Welling or Bexley which you may prefer.
