Post reply -->London Woolwich STEPZ School of Dance 23 Dec Woolwich Considering a move to Royal ArsenalIm considering a move to Royal Arsenal with my girlfriend but im concerned at the surrounding area outside of the gated complex and the station. Is the area safe during the day? Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks Post reply -->London Woolwich 1 Nov ^ WoolwichIt depends how you define "safe". Woolwich is probably as "safe" as other London areas like New Cross, Peckham etc which probably means you would be fairly "safe" if you concentrate on getting between the gated development and the station and do not hang around. Avoid making the same walk at quiet times and definitely not after dark alone, and definitely do not just hang around anywhere in Woolwich. Woolwich is pretty scary but I have lived there for a few years (not in gated part) and not had any problems. If you are interested, please email me Mail-me Post reply -->London Woolwich CPS Woolwich 28 Apr Woolwich Waterfront Transit SystemNow that the Greenwich Waterfront Transit System has been scrapped by TFL and the Mayor of London. Route 472 Thamesmead Town Centre to North Greenwich Station and the 02 Arena should be improved. With a new increased frequency at all times with extra buses operating on the route at all times including the night service. TFL should provide extra funding for this route in the light of the decision to scrap the Greenwich Waterfront Transit. Post reply -->London Woolwich Fred 18 Apr ^ Woolwich 380 and 244 in West ThamesmeadDont forget improvements needed to the 380 and 244 services in West Thamesmead. These services are really overcrowded during peak times meaning you might have to wait for 2 or 3 buses to pass before you can get on a bus to or from Woolwich, and especially since orderly queuing for buses (1st to arrive at bus stop, 1st on bus) seems to have been completely forgotten in the area. Drives me mad. Rubbish service. Rubbish area. Post reply -->London Woolwich 27 Apr ^ Woolwich any improvemnet in thamesmead ?hi i am looking at the property in thamesmead. any improvemnet in that area ? Post reply -->London Woolwich yee 9 Aug Woolwich Greenwich Waterfront Transit Sceme ScrappedGreat news last week when TfL announced they were scrapping the Greenwich Waterfront Transport scheme. The scheme would have seen a high frequency bus service racing through the pedestrian areas and tranquility of the Royal Arsenal. A dangerous and pointless idea which was of no use to anybody. Excellent community action by the residents of the Royal Arsenal to organize their protests and to get the scheme canned. Roll on Crossrail! Post reply -->London Woolwich 6 Apr ^ Woolwich Water Transit Scheme ScrappedI agree with scrapping of the Waterfront Transit scheme and would rather see major frequency improvements to local bus services serving Thamesmead, Abbey Wood, Woolwich and Greenwich. Including improving the frequencies on routes 177 Thamesmead Town Centre to Peckham via Abbey Wood, Plumstead, Woolwich, Lower Charlton, East Greenwich, Greenwich Town Centre, Deptford, New Cross to every 8 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday evenings and Sundays. Also route 180 Belvedere Industrial Estate (Thamesmead East) to Lewisham Centre via Thamesmead, Abbey Wood, Plumstead, Woolwich, Lower Charlton, East Greenwich, Greenwich Town Centre and Lewisham Station (DLR) also to every 8 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes and every 10 to minutes Monday to Saturday evenings and Sundays. Routes 161 422 and 472 which serve both North Greenwich Station, 02 Arena and the Woolwich Arsenal DLR Stations as part of there routes should all run to the same frequencies. Post reply -->London Woolwich Heather Hamilton 10 Apr ^ Woolwich Disaster for West ThamesmeadThe scrapping of the Waterfront Transit scheme is a disaster for West Thamesmead. I bought a house in West Thamesmead on a new development in 2000 when they were still saying that the Greenwich Waterfront Transit scheme might be a tram. Nine years later and there will be NOTHING. Since I moved to West Thamesmead, the area started with promise, but has continually got worse with anti social behaviour, litter, no facilities, poor transport links, and the increasing noise from City Airport. I wish I could afford to move somewhere else but I cant. The Greenwich Waterfront Tranist scheme was my last hope that the price of my house might actually stop sliding. Post reply -->London Woolwich 14 Apr ^ Woolwich Local bus service improvementsI agree that local bus services in the Thamesmead, Abbey Wood, Woolwich and Greenwich areas need to be improved. I also agree with the comments and suggestions for routes 177 180 161 422 and 472. I would also like to see the 422 Bexleyheath to North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) or route 486 Bexleyheath Shopping Centre to North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) be extended from North Greenwich Station to Greenwich (Cutty Sark) to provide a much needed direct bus service between Greenwich Town Centre and Charlton Village. Post reply -->London Woolwich Ben Stokes 10 Apr Woolwich After work drinks - recommendations?Hi there I have just taken up an office in the Royal Arsenal. I am totally unfamiliar with the area (having only come down to view the office before) and wanted to find out whether there are any decent pubs within walking distance? I quite enjoy a pint or two on a Friday evening but I have to say that the pubs on the walk down from the station don't look like a lot of fun! I am 31, male - just in case your analyis is gender/age specific :) Mail-me Post reply -->London Woolwich Shay 23 Mar Woolwich VISTA BUILDINGHello Everyone, I am considering to buy a flat in Vista Building next to Sainsbury. I have heard lots of good and bad things about Woolwich and I am very confused about the purchase. Any thoughts will be gratefully received. Post reply -->London Woolwich Shanks 11 Feb ^ Woolwich Vista BuildingThe Vista building is a lovely building and handy for Woolwich Asenal BR and Woolwich Arsenal DLR Stations. Woolwich is like any area really and has had it bad points. On the whole the area is undergoing regeneration so is on the up. Post reply -->London Woolwich Cliff 14 Feb ^ Woolwich Vista - RepossesionsLike many of the new developments in Woolwich and West Thamesmead, the Vista buidling has seen a number of repossesions so watch out for the history of the flat you are looking at and the potential neihgbours. Unfortunately, I think an address with a "bad" history can impact your credit rating even if it nothing to do with you. Woolwich has a long way to go and its way back up to being a safe and nice place to live. Right now, unless Woolwich is exactly where you need to be for work, family, etc, I would recommend you look somewhere else to a place which does not have problems Woolwich does today. Post reply -->London Woolwich 15 Feb Woolwich The DLR^ Woolwich Arsenal DLR Open nowYes - It is open now. Trains ran at the weekend and the official opening was on Monday morning. Post reply -->London Woolwich 13 Jan Woolwich Buying Near Woolwich Arsenal stationI am looking at buying in a development called Connaught Mews which is just south of the station. I really like the flat but the are does look and feel a bit dodgy. Does anyone know this area and whether it might be a good buy? I am hoping that the dlr etc will improve the area but it really going to improve in 5-10 years rather than the next 2 years? Post reply -->London Woolwich Matt 24 Oct ^ WoolwichMatt - In the current climate, who can tell if it will be a good buy? The DLR benefit are probably already factored into prices in the area, but do not expect an overnight improvement in Woolwich the day after the first DLR train rolls in. Any improvement will be over a long period, 5,10 maybe more years. Trust your gut feeling. If you dont like the look and feel of an area on the day you buy, I think it is unlikely that you will grow to like it. Whatever your decision - Good luck! Post reply -->London Woolwich 24 Oct ^ WoolwichConnaught Mews isnt a development Matt, its conversion of the old military hospital isnt it and I think its beautiful. They have a very strong management committee there too and I think the place is very well looked after. All areas of London look a bit dodgey apart from those which will cost you five times as much to buy :) The DLR is coming in a few months. There is now talk of a bridge aswell. You pays your money and takes your chance - where else have you looked? Have a google for the regeneration plans for Woolwich. It has a lot going for it and I do so hope it returns to its former glory.
