Post or Ask something here in 'Wood Green' ^ Wood GreenI was born in Wood Green in Rivulet Rd. in 1932 and was evacuated to Wales in 1939. I remember the Ally Pally and the carbuncle tree we played on. Uncle Harry Lygo worked at Barrets in Mays rd. so we had plenty of pear drops. I went to Lordship Lane School in Ellenborough Rd. ( Think that is the spelling) Day trips to Southend were wonderful, we were there on 3 Sept when WW2 was declared and all the trains stopped. Dad started marching us towards home until thankfully we caught a Greenline bus. Post reply -->London Wood Green Dan Cox 9 Feb ^ Wood Green hello to you young siryes, things have certainly changed.I think we were walking about Wood Green at the same time although I was born in Wood Green ,we lived over a shoe shop on the corner of Turnant Road across the Cambridge Road in Tottenham but on Lordship Lane. And thats all different as well. My school was Risley Avenue. On the way to this school I would walk through this beautiful little park in Tower Gardens Road.Spent a lot of time there, playing.I can still smellthe scent of those beautiful roses they had planted.I heard they turned this park into a car park.I hope not! I am thinking of moving near to Alexandra Palace station as the commute to Moorgate looks good (about 20 mins), but is it any good? Are the trains pretty reliable and is it possible to get on them in rush hour or is it just too busy. Thanks Pete Post reply -->London Wood Green Pete 4 Dec ^ Wood GreenHello, I use the train every weekday, although I pick it up from Harringay. I find it reliable, although there are the odd days in the week when there are some delays. But no more than any other train service. I am not familiar with Alexandra Park but I have heard good things - if you are happy with the area to live in, I say go for it! Post reply -->London Wood Green evans 10 Dec ^ Wood Green The trains arent too badI find the 8:20 train is often full and ones after that are often late, but usually only by a couple of minutes. Earlier trains (up to the 8:14) are generally on time and not too packed. On the whole it's not a bad journey. The evening trains from Moorgate are very reliable. I have one of the shortest commutes in my office and everyone's jealous! Plus it's a nice place to live - there's quite a villagey feel around the palace with lots of open spaces but the convenience of Wood Green with its tube station and all the high street shops so near by. Go for it - I'm sure you'll like it! You can see it more clearly from the upper floor of HollyWood Green cinima through their windows. But just what is it? It may have been an old cinima as it has a fire escape leading from it. But I just wondered if anyone knew what it was. Post reply -->London Wood Green 29 Aug Wood Greenhi my name is vasil,I am looking for a nice swimming pool center in Wood green area.I woold be very happy if uyou are able to help me .thank u Post reply -->London Wood Green vmalinoff.co.uk 19 Jul ^ Wood Green Hello! The nearest swimming pool for you would be Park Road Swimming Pool in Crouch End, N8. The easiest way to get to this swimming pool is take the W3 bus to Priory Road. Get off the bus, cross over the road, round the corner past the art place to the W7 bus stop. You could hop on the W7 for one stop or walk to the swimming pool. Apparently it has been recently refurbished and is a wonderful venue to swim in.
