Post or Ask something here in 'Willesden' Willesden 83 Barry Road.Does anyone know when Barry Road,Stonebride Park,Willesden was demolished ? Does anyone know of any historical details about this area? Post reply -->London Willesden Colin Horne. 19 Jul ^ Willesden Barry RoadI was living in Stonebridge up to April 1962 and used to return to visit my relatives up to 1986 and Barry Road was still there then. Post reply -->London Willesden Tony 24 Jul ^ Willesden Barry RoadDuring the WW2 war years this road had brick & concrete air raid shelters errected on both sides, this happened on most streets because of the air raids that were going on. there was a laundry on the left side almost at the at the top end,This was called The highfield laundry families used to take the washing in a bag to be cleaned it was a cheap service but there was the odd occasion when you got another persons washing by mistake. At the very top of the road there was a ministry of Works compound which blocked off the road so vehicles had to return back down the hill to get out. It was a good road to skate down or or roll down in a homemade gocart. not a lot of traffic about then. All that I know is that his mother's name was Olive her occupation was listed as "maid"; she later remarried probably in the 1920's. He had a younger brother named John. He told me one time that there were three Douglas Charles Knight's ( all of the first born son's had this name ) buried in the cemetery in Willesden but not which cemetery! Dad was estranged from his mother and brother after the death of his father likely in the early 1920's. Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.
