When the old Brewery was demolished after following partial bomb damage and to make way for the Festival of Britain 1951 was moved to the station. Then moved to the foot of the bridge. Waterloo windmill housei was born in lambeth hospital ,and lived at 24 windmill house until 1968,my mum rose married george grant [my dad] and with his kids we all moved to balham.i have good memories of waterloo and playing on the bomb site which is now the new vic.and going to school at st patricks on cornwall road.ive heard about the frankie fraser connection who used to drink in the windmill along with a certain nosher powell, my dad was a bit if a rogue and drunk in the windmill so perhaps they knew each other. Does anyone have any information about it or know if the building still exists. My Father was born there in 1910. Post reply -->London Waterloo brian 2 Jun Should we remove this post ? ^ WaterlooThe hospital building is still there,but no longer a hospital.my father was a night porter there in the 70s it was then a nurses lodge.It was still a maternity hospital before that.It closed down in the 80s i think and was laid empty for a long time,i moved away 13 yrs ago but have been passed since and it is back in use i think as a headquarters for something. Hope this helps. I had friends living in windmill house in the 60s,i lived in Roupell st from 1950 till 1997. Post reply -->London Waterloo Sandy 10 Sep Should we remove this post ? ^ Waterloo hi, This building was still in exsitence 15 years ago.but no longer open. it was being used as storage. the hospital was opened by the then Princess of Wales, Princess Alexandra. I believe that lying in hospitals were used by women that had the money to pay for their stay as births were normally at home. The area around Waterloo was a poor one so your mum and dd must have had money! Waterloo Looking for space for hire for video shootI am looking for a space for hire for a one day video shoot featuring senior citizens swing dancing. The shoot is tentaively scheduled for June. Ideally, to allow us the most flexibility, the space should be a community centre, school stage or gym, or theatre space. I believe that the address was in the Cut and the buildings were demolished for the festival of Britain.
