Walworth TRAFALGAR ROAD 3 PROPERTIES

My father's (Stan)family all used to live in that street around 1880's through to well into the 1960's. My grandfather (Frank) was a furniture dealer and had a shop along there too , the house numbers I know for sure are 97, 99 and 121 on the corner where my Dad's three (was four!) old aunts lived... Lil, Nell, Bett and Flo. Are those properties still standing. I know I visited 121 with my dad when v. young and the door was pale green. We used to park there and then go to East Street market. I picked this book up the other day and then couldn't put it down again! A brilliant walk down memory lane - even my old local gets a mention! - and a very moving story too.

Walworth Arnold Family

PETER ARNOLD.
I'm trying to find my old mate PETE ARNOLD, who used to live with his parents at the Schoolkeepers house, Nelson/Walworth Secondary School. Pete was Motor bike mad and had a Ducati in the late 70s
His Dad was called John? and his mum was from Yorkshire, both worked at the school. He had a sister I believe and a deceased brother. I went with Pete & friends up the Old Kent Road on booze ups when up that way inthe 70s.
When I last visited Walworth in 1983 for Pete's wedding to Susan? Divorced? Pete got married in his Army uniform (RAOC) and the reception was in the School.
I come from Bristol and worked with Pete when he was at British Aircraft Corporation .
Any Info Please!

Congreve St is in Walworth. It's a turning off East Street, (Old Kent Road end). I remember it from the early sixties and the housing at that time all looked pretty new!

Walworth 34 Portland Street Walworth - BAKERY SHOP

Hi - I'm researching my family tree and wonder if anyone has any photos or information of the bakery ran at this address some years ago...It was probably just before 1900 although i'm not sure when this shop finally closed? Or if the building is still there! This was possibly ran by a German family by the name of Muller / Schopf or Rettner? If you have any information or photographs, please contact me on this site?
I appreciate any help! :-)

Walworth Merrow Street - Ministry of Works

In the '60's I was an Apprentice in Merrow Street for the Ministry of Works at the workshops on the Southern side of Merrow Street close to the junction with Walworth Road. I see from Google Earth there is a housing development there now. Would love to hear  Mail-me  from anyone who knows the history of the premises as it was pretty old when I worked there!! Some old work-mates I would love to hear from/about are 'Sugar' Bill Robinson who was also a boxer and guitarist. Spent some good times with him at the Manor Place Baths fights and at the Thomas A'beckett where he trained and played in a band. 'Smudger' Smith the foreman and I think lived in Amelia Street. Paul Crisp, also an apprentice living Bromley.

Walworth Schools

Hi there.
The only school I know of close to Rodney Road is Townsend School, for infants and juniors. Don't know how old the building was but it looked pretty old in the early 60s

Walworth Cooper Family 99 South Street

Does anyone remember my granddad, George William Cooper (1895-1956) and his family (father George Edward, 1871-1948, mother Polly (1870-1954), sister Ethel (1897-1981), sister Marie (1904-1995), sister Gladys (1907-1979), brother Albert (1910-1932), brother Sid (1913-2002). They lived at 99 South Street (renamed Dawes Street in 1937) from about 1903 on until the start of the war. I believe the side of South Street (now Dawes) where they lived was demolished in the 1960s to build a big council flats  Mail-me
