They lived at 99 South Street (renamed Dawes Street in 1937) from about 1903 on until the start of the war. They had 3 daughters: Eleanor Louisa, Catherine (Kit or Kate) and Winifred. 5 sons all died before they were two. Charles died in the first World War and Eleanor re-married in 1924 to a Mr. James. My father was Walter Alfred Bailey who lived in Colworth Grove and my mother was Lily Florence Winterburn and she lived in Crampton Street. They were born between 1913 and 1918. I know they both went to school in the area and she was a May Queen at a club at Browning Hall in the 30s. She was born in Walworth in 1849 She was either nee Middleton or Charnock but there are no records of her prior to her marriage to George Bone in 1866 in Newington. Her marriage cert says Middleton and gives her father as George Charnock however my Grandmother said her father was J M Charnock - House painter of 50 Guildford Place, Lower Kennington Lane. She had 7 Children with George Bone but on some of their birth certs she put her maiden name as Charnock and on others as Middleton. I have come to a dead end in tracing her family prior to her marriage - Can anyone help? Many thanks. Post reply -->London Walworth Mike Lusty 3 Jan ^ Walworth EAST LANE(East street market).This south London market was moved from the Walworth Rd (because of traffic congestion),in 1880,once there its area gradually increased and spread into some ajacent roads,the bird market was just a part of it,I can remember the birds(mostly live poultry as I remember)before the war,think the whole market has changed a fair bit now(haven't been there for about 8 years)they had their centenary in 1980 when all the stalls were dressed up.And the Southwark Ass produced a fairly large enamel sign,I still have mine,Chas in New Zealand.
