Post or Ask something here in 'Stockwell' ^ StockwellThere is a New Horizons gym on Liberty Street which is new and good value. Does not seem to be any information on line for it. It belongs to Durand School, but is open to the public. Has a nice pool too. Post reply -->London Stockwell Paul. 5 Apr Stockwell Doctors surgeries?Hi - have recently moved back to Stockwell and was wondering .. can anyone reccommend please a particular doctor's surgery? Thank you Post reply -->London Stockwell William 13 Mar Stockwell I am thinking of moving from shoreditch to 1 larkhall lane in stockwellbut I have resevations about living in stockwell. the flat i have seen is amazing though. if it were in shoreditch, i would buy it! can someone advise me please? Mail-me Post reply -->London Stockwell Edward 1 Feb ^ Stockwell DONT MOVE THEREmy boyfriend lives in stockwell on larkhall lane and for the past 5 years I have spent alot of time traveling there and walking the local area. Its not a nice place to live a flat might be nice but the local gangs walking around the estate with knifes all night is not great and the continueing noise of ploice cars through ou the day and night is no fun. my boy friend has lived there all his life and been mugged over 5 times, had his car and bike taken 3 times and had the house broken in a good number of times. I never feel safe there and a aprt from the tube i can't see any reason why poeple would pay so much money to live in a unsafe area Post reply -->London Stockwell un said 4 Jun ^ Stockwell Larkhall Lane Safety and CrimeAbove a bit harsh perhaps. the key problem with this bit of Stockwell/Wandsworth is that it doesn't FEEL very safe. And that is because the area is very near a quite deserted part of the Wandsworth Road near Vauxhall, and in the other direction Stockwell Tube Station. This area has never been good. Although having said that, an enclave just 200 metres south of this is amongst the most expensive property in South London with houses going in excess of 1m. But they have cars and sophisticated burglar alarms. The bottom line here is ironically not whether it's safe, but whether it FEELS safe, and I don't think this area does. Post reply -->London Stockwell Christiana 4 Jun ^ Stockwell Stockwell can be trouble but it "aint all bad"I think that you have to live in Stockwell for a while b4 you actually start to feel safe, I've lived here all my life so i dont think it is a really bad place. The gangs dont really bother me so i dont think that its such a bad thing, but it can be kinda scary at night and its better if you are with sum1. I'm about to embark on a move from the countryside, in delightful Mid wales to London this weekend. Having lived only ever in rural areas, both in the UK and abroad I'll be honest I'm a little apprehensive. - Don't get me wrong, I've been to London loads, but obviously it's a big transition. Any advice, good or bad is warmly received, cheers. Post reply -->London Stockwell Elstar 1 Nov Stockwell Whats Stockwell Like?Hi, my daughter wants to move down to London and has been offered accommodation in Stockwell. Being a Northerner, I don't know anything about the area! Is it a safe area, what's the local amenities like, is it like Manchester? Consists of good and bad areas and if so where's desireable and where's less desireable. Like all mums I don't want her to go but she has to spread her wings it doesn't stop me worring though. Please advise. Mail-me Post reply -->London Stockwell Carol 14 Sep ^ StockwellOur neighbours include Joanna Lumley, Gordon Ramsey and Rowan Atkinson - you'll find the streets behind Stockwell station boast grand Georgian terraces with wide boulevard-type streets, a well kept secret! Neighbours are respectful and kind so I think if your daughter says Hi to the people she lives next to she'll find they look out for her. I hope this helps settle some fears and that your daughter has a great time should she choose to live here! Kerry Post reply -->London Stockwell Kerry 29 Nov ^ StockwellHi, Naturally there are reasons why Stockwell is among the cheapest property in central London. It is not one of the nicest. Crime is a minor problem, but not nearly as bad as Dalston/Hackney & Brixton. Realistically though it is very central, cheap, and has good tube connections. I would say its on a par with Rusholm in Manchester. Nothing too serious, but there are better areas. Post reply -->London Stockwell 11 Jan Stockwell Stockwell ParkThis website has some useful info on Stockwell - mainly intended for residents in the Stockwell Park area .. http://www.stockwellpark.com/ Post reply -->London Stockwell Patrick 7 Sep Stockwell Secure parking in Stockwell areaAnybody know of any? Looking to move into the area and getting off street parking is a real pain. Post reply -->London Stockwell 30 Aug Stockwell A Slating for Stockwell?Ive been living in the Stockwell conservation area for over a year now and really enjoy it. For a few streets the Oval side of the station its more like being in Clapham Old Town than anywhere else. Sure there's estates around the conservation area but isn't that the case all over London? Your walking distance to Clapham North and you have great links to the city (you can always get on the tube at Stockwell as people change lines). Post reply -->London Stockwell Steve 5 Jul Stockwell StockwellTrue just what is there to slag off about Stockwell? Concrete overload and lack of greenery maybe, but really there is nothing there. Underground Station, War memorial/bomb shelter, Iceland, Jacks, Betting Shops, Fish and Chip Shop thats it I've lived in Stockwell with partner and small child for 3 years now. Think its got better in that time less Portuguese crack additcs about and estates have been improved slightly with security door and cameras. Still lots of nutters about though but it's just London you have to be aware and safe there are muggings everywhere My fav places in Stockwell are Larkhall Park and the Surprise Pub much better than Slade Gardens. But the really posh house round there look lovely. Thats it. St Andrews Church on Landor Road is oldest builing in area Dating from circa 1790 and Hammerton Hall and Brewery Tap are left over from the once huge Hammerton Brewery that once stood where the ugly Quadrant building is now Post reply -->London Stockwell Dunc 11 May Stockwell Friendly French au Pair look for some baby sitting in StockwellHi, I'm an experienced au pair and I'm looking for Baby sitting some evenings and week ends. Beats paying over the odds for Soho Gyms or the other posh one that's around somewhere in Clapham. Post reply -->London Stockwell gymnSarah 12 Oct ^ Stockwell Try the YMCA on Stockwell Rd or the Squash Club on Wandsworth Road^ Stockwell Horizons GYMHello Yes, there is a fab new Gym near to my house in Stockwell i think it is in Liberty Street SW9 it is called Horizons Brand new!!! very modern. and i have just become a member. Speak to Miguel 0207 091 1670 Very cool place. Regards Claudia Post reply -->London Stockwell 22 Mar ^ Stockwell is one in Durand GardensThere is apparently a brand new one in Durand Gardens (posh street a couple of blocks from tube) that has a swimming pool etc. My flatmate goes there .. will post the address once I find it myself (can't find any websites referring to it). Is £50/month. Actually, it might be the one on Liberty Street that Claudia has mentioned above. Post reply -->London Stockwell Patrick 7 Sep |
