Those were the days dancing down the Empire, Cafe, Whiskey and a lot more I can't remember - anyone remember a really way out place in Lancaster Gate? I havent had a chance recently to keep in touch but I hope everyone is well and OK and enjoying life. A lot of people do look at this site but don't post - still a lot of people can't type, perhaps that prevents them. For us lucky ones who can - I hope we keep remembering the Hill and talking about it. They were definitely the good old days! Lovely to hear from people in far flung places like Florida and nice to know that they never forget Stamford Hill - seems like it must have had something special! Post reply -->London Stamford Hill delboy 4 May Should we remove this post ? ^ Stamford Hill Hi Bernie, Dellboy and folks who lived on the HillCromwells sounds familiar Bernie but I can't be sure now - too many senior moments I'm afraid! Springfield Park, now that was nice, everything was so peaceful and pleasant then. Although I do remember there were a few punch ups with Mosley's lot occasionally but usually at Ridley Road. I remember sitting on top of the bus going to the Hill and the boxing promoter Jack Solomons used that route from his home in Hackney. I was about 9/10, he always asked me if I was doing well at school. I said Yes of course, if only he knew! Later I used to get off the 73 bus at Stoke Newington Common and walk home with my friends quite late - never had a problem! I don't think much of so called progress - should have made a better world! I think we had the best generation, still boundaries in place, but what a lot of fun we had. Family and friends were nearby (maybe grandparents remained in the East End) lots of luverly memories. Best wishes, Health is the main thing in Life. Hopefully we can get some more ex-Hillers to remember those days! They are out there, as you said, we all feel the same about the Hill. It would be a shame to let those special memories fade. I understand there is a club called The Lodge which, I believe, still meets at Stamford Hill once a month. No doubt, lots of faces from the past go there, I can't get there unfortunately, but I am told that they meet in NW and East London still, now that would be an ideal place to drum up some interest for this site! I lived on the corner of Jessam Avenue and knew you and especially your brother David who is the same age as me well. I went to Tyssen with David and used to visit your home in Forburg Road before you moved to Jessam. I am still in London (north west, of course!) where are you and David and how is everyone doing? Also my wife and I did the Soho walk that Denise has written about and it really was a great afternoon visiting the sites and reliving the thoughts and feelings from "back in the day".
