They had a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Linda. Winnie (nee Meeks) was my mother's best friend from their school days at St Paul's School. Mum was born Lilian Rose Potter in 1912. Yesterday I was visiting the area and discovered The Rotherhithe Picture Research Library near St Mary's Church. Looking through wedding photographs I came across one of an un-named couple, instantly recognisable as Jim & Winnie. It would be good to give the Picture Library a bit of information to include with the photograph. He served in WWII in the RAMC (Royal Army Medical Cor). He spent some time in Madras India during the 1940s, then we think he returned to London, 23 Eugenia Road, Rotherhithe in the 1950's (based on a P&O Passenger list). He has a daughter Christine (aged 61) - who left India and now lives in Australia. We would loved to find him. We think he may have a son, David or Hugh Ruskin?? Can anyone help??? My name is Tania -email Mail-me Post reply -->London Rotherhithe Tania Reaburn 20 Jan ^ RotherhitheNot sure if i can help with your search, but i was born in eugenia road 12/5/1954 and lived there till i was about eight years old, most of my family were dockers and the family being quite large (as were others) were fairly well known by the local community, at the time. however the number is 72 eugenia road, and the surname is Hunt. Good luck with your search Post reply -->London Rotherhithe charley_yogi@yahoo.co.uk 9 Jan ^ RotherhitheMy father was born in Eugenia Street 1911 the family name of Morris. In 1916 all the children were taken from the Parents. Louise Matilda Morris went into service Joseph Henry (John my Dad) and his brother Thomas Randall Morris both went to the Shirley School and then on to the HMS Formidable in Portishead Two older brothers went into Pascalls and the Eldest of all Charles was probably already working. I would love to know if any of the family were known and what happened to them all. My Dad never mentioned them. His Father was Randall John Charles Morris and his Mother was Thomasine Morris nee Jocham I think they were from number 26 or46 Egenia Road. I lnow this does not answer your queery but may strike a cord somewhere. It's long been demolished now but I would love to hear from anyone who attended from 1952 to 1958. This place holds cherished memories and I can still remember the teachers' names: Mrs Pollington: Miss Everett, et al. Post reply -->London Rotherhithe Rob 15 Aug ^ Rotherhithe cjtaxis@hotmail.co.uk^ RotherhitheYes, I remember my teacher was Miss Everett and the headmistress was Miss Pollington who's class I didn't go into because we moved to Peckham at that time. My mother had also been taught by a much younger Miss Everett. I remember it being a very small 'village' school with mixed ages in each class, just three classrooms I think from age about 4 to 11. I remember going to the church next to the school also, St. Paul's, also now I believe, demolished. Post reply -->London Rotherhithe 12 Mar ^ RotherhitheI went to St Pauls School till the age of 11 when war broke out in 1939 when the children were evacuated,I wonder if that was the same Miss Everett that taught us in the late 30,s Post reply -->London Rotherhithe bob H 17 Sep ^ Rotherhithe^ Rotherhithe proudtobelefthanded@hotmail.co.ukYes I attened the school from 1952 - 1958 and recall those same teachers, in fact they were my teachers Post reply -->London Rotherhithe 17 Jun Rotherhithe Rotherhithe and HolbornSorry to be a nuisance, but I live a long way away. Is Rotherhithe anywhere near Holborn? My great-great grandfather was born Rotherhithe according to the census, but the only suitable christening I can find is Saint Andrew, Holborn. Does this seem a fit, or is it way off? Post reply -->London Rotherhithe roddy 24 Jul |
