Peckham Peckham Secondary School for Girls

Hello from New Zealand. I was at Peckham Secondary School for Girls in the 1950s. The school was divided into three separate houses in in three buildings -
Rye House, Sumner House and Denmark House. I wa at Rye House. Miss M. D. Clarke was Head, with three assistant heads for each house. I loved that school. I was Delia Wellington, my 'best friend' was Valerie Beere. Staff I remember are Mrs. Mutch, Mrs. Hepplewhite,Miss Wade, Mrs. Gascoigne, Miss Barrett, Miss Cooper. I have lived in New Zealand since I was 18, and own a 16 acre stag property in the ranges south-west of Whangarei (in the North Island's sub-tropical Northland province). I would dearly love to get in touch with Valerie Beere and any other girls who were in Miss Cooper's form during the early 1950s. Contact  Mail-me  please.

I was at Peckham early 50's and remember all of these names. The year I joined Miss Cooper was on an American exchange and we had an American teaching us maths. When Miss cooper got back she was horrified by how little we had learned. Our form mistress was Mrs Watson who taught R.E.THe head girl was Margaret Snow.Of course Miss Wade was a New Zealander and she told me Iwould never learn to play tennis and she would never be able to teach me. You're right it was agreat school. We were in Whangarei in 2006 and found it a great place to be. I was Maureem Gornall.

hi, I use to look after val, in huntleigh retirement home in wellington, she passed away in 2000, I loved her so much, she was such a laugh, and her tipple was brandy, and once she had a couple of those, she would ring her bell constantly, and then laugh, naughty is the word to describe val, and the stories she would tell me about her life, just wow., wish i knew her now to appreciate it all but i was in my early 20s, and i think thats why she loved me as i could tell her everything i had been up to in the weekend.

Peckham Hi There

I was at Peckham School, Rye House in 1956. From there we moved over to the new comprehensive across the road, 1958? I was in South Block, Yellow staircase, cann't remember the number of the classroom but our form teacher was Mrs Roberts. Miss Clark was the Head Mistress. I left in April 1960 but I did go on the school trip to Germany in the August of 1960.

Peckham Anyone work for Evan Cooks in the 50s?

I am trying to put together something special for a dear but frail old friend of mine and have been tracing the name of old employees at his workplace Evan Cooks around 1952 - in particular at their garage which was 72 Queens Road, Peckham SE London. One name eludes me, I understand he may have been the manager and was named 'Jack'. I'm told he lived in Morden but cannot find his surname. If any of your readers have information, memories or photos they can share I would be so pleased.
Many thanks.

Peckham King Arthur Street, SE14

Hi
Does anyone remember King Arthur Street, SE14 or indeed lived there as I did.
It consisted of terraced houses, which were knocked down to be replaced by flats, and apparently they changed the name of the street.
Thank you

Peckham

Yes I remember King Arthur Street if its the one that had a pub on the corner and was just off Clifton way. Which is now gone too.
I think it had an old tramway where you could walk near some arches which lead to Queens road Station. I had a friend who lived there his name was David Bennett.

We used to play in the arches and went to Kender St School .

Peckham King Arthur St

I lived there until 1966, it was SE15 not SE14, there was a pub called Railway Tavern on the corner and a little cul-de-sac off it called Bland Avenue, there was a shop opposite which was always empty, the railway arch half way along it is now bricked off and it is now called King Arthur Close
