Post or Ask something here in 'Marylebone' Marylebone Retired and boredMy mother lives in Marble Arch and is a bright and intelligent 80 years young. My father passed away 2 years ago and my mother is just bored and lonely but doesn't know how to meet similar people to herself. But she loves playing cards, going to the theatre etc and if she could work with someone to set up a weekly club it would give her some direction and also help a lot of others who must be in the same position. If you are interested to take this further, please do contact me and lets help make London as much fun for our parents as it is for everyone else! Marylebone British Unidentified Flying Objects Research OrganisationI recall that during the 1980s the British Unidentified Flying Objects Research Organisation (BUFORA) used to hold monthly Saturday meetings of an afternoon or evening at the London Business School. BUFORA later relocated to the University of Westminster. Does anyone know whatever happened to the organisation? And does anyone recall whatever happened to some of the members including Jim Fawkes, Dave Atkins, Steve Gamble and Bob Digby? It was in Wigmore Street, Marylebone, from 1875 to 1937, and then moved to new premises at 14 Blandford Street, Marylebone, at the beginning of 1938. The girls were evacuated to the Bristol area in September 1939 on account of the Blitz; when the war was over the school reopened, but not the orphanage. My aunt was in care at the orphanage in the 1930s. I loved this pub as it had a village type atmosphere and a coal fire in the back room. Another pub my pal and I used to like was "The Barley Mow (?)" in Dorset Street. This particular pub which was run by a Geordie had similar qualities. As I recall the pub had a lot of history of which I need to be reminded. Both these pubs must have been amongst the best in London! Can anyone please tell me if the above pubs are still in operation and what they are like today. Post reply -->London Marylebone Chris Miller 4 Jun ^ Marylebonebarley mow is closed, but will reopen. Beehive is very changed. Post reply -->London Marylebone 14 Nov ^ Marylebone The Beehive PHYes, the Beehive PH has surely changed from what it was during the 1980s. I called in the pub earlier this year, but did not stay too long as the bar staff were asking £4-£5 for a pint of beer so that was a double negative whammy. How sad!
