Some of thw Brewery chains like Wetherspoons for example could open some in the old closed down pubs in and around the area. Lets hope we get some soon so we can have good nights outs at the weekend in safe well managed pubs and clubs. We do not all want trouble we agree. Most folk in there are between 18-30 anyway so try it out now that Yates,s is closed (thank god) Pool table, good food, good music and a very very nice place to relax with leather seats etc.. Staffed and managed by people of the same age group. Properly managed with properly licensed local door supervisers . So youngsters can enjoy a quiet drink in peace. Strict rules on behaviour would have to be applied to the pubs and clubs. Not all youngsters are out for trouble on a Friday and Saturday night. We hope the other empty shops and business premises will soon be brought back into use in the very near future. The Rushey Green area of Catford needs more supermarkets, Green Grocers, Butchers etc etc which will benefit the whole local community. I hardly make trips to town to be honest. And I know that the cinemas are gone, but just round the corner in Greenwich you have the picture house which provides a good selection of movies to watch and cheap monday nights. Lewisham is being regenarated and the quaggy is looking really amazing with its new aesthetic look. Not to mention that you have hilly fields and the farmers market, ladywell fields - the area behind the hospital - great spots for walking, jogging, spending a nice afternoon out. Recently the fireworks display at Brockley max was amazing! There are many local residents action groups who are key in making our neighbourhood safe and clean. I live in the heart of Lewisham, right off lewisham way in the conservation area and I find it green, nice and quiet. Meze Mangal, Life and Baburs are nice restaurants nearby. Now who said Lewisham was rough? Post reply -->London Lewisham 6 Jul Lewisham Lewisham cinemaThe market in Lewisham is great and the best place to buy fruit in this part of south-east London for miles around. What is missing from Lewisham is a cinema. The Rex cinema by the railway line was demolished sometime during the 1980s though I forget the particular year. On the night before it actually closed I recall attending an all night Horror movie show which included films such as "The night of the living dead". Prior to the that I used to watch films at the Odeon/Gaumont which was the biggest in south-east London as I recall. During the 1960s some pals and I watched Count Basie and his Orchestra with the great female singer Sarah Vaughan in concert. At the Ladywell end of Lewisham used to be "The Prince of Wales (?) cinema which has been a bingo hall for more years than I can remember but I never did get to watch any films here. A lot of Lewisham's soul went when all the cinemas closed.
