Kidbrooke Hadrian Cycling Club

I joined the Hadrian in the early 60's. I was a dedicated cyclist and rode every day to keep fit. I rode 10 mile time trials on the Q21 and never bought the beer afterwards. I worked with Ron Sefton of 34 Nomads and we had an evening race for Forest Hill to Hornimans Museum - and I only won twice. My main bikes were from Youngs Lightweight Cycles in Lee Green - pleasant memories. If anyone would like to contact me please do - is Ron Shaw still with us???? my email address is  Mail-me  and I would love to hear from anyone associated with the club.

Hello,
I do apologise if my query has absolutely no relevance whatsoever with you.

I reside in the Kidbrooke area, and was wondering whether you would know someone who could have a look at my precious American cruiser bike.
My brakes would need to have a look at.

Please state your fees OR point me to someone you know

 Mail-me

Many thanks

Greatly appreciated

Kidbrooke Kidbrooke Village Bus Services

As well as the proposed changes to route 178 and B16 serving Kidbrooke Village this summer. We have asked Transport For London Buses to consider extending route 129 North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) to Greenwich (Cutty Sark) from Greenwich (Cutty Sark) to Kidbrooke Station for Kidbrooke Village and possiblyextended further on to Lewisham Shopping Centre via Kidbrooke Park Road, Lee Green, Lee High Road and Lewisham High Street (Police Station).

We have also asked that route 132 North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) to Bexleyheath Shopping Centre via Eltham serves Kidbrooke Park Road in both directions by doing a loop around Kidbrooke Station Forecourt.

We are waiting for a response on both these suggestions from TFL London Buses, which will improve bus services in the Kidbrooke area.

Kidbrooke Queens car.

A couple of other correspondents seem satisfied that the Queen was in a closed top car and I certainly remember an open topped car and two disappointed women behind me.

Could there have been someone else in the same procession, say Princess Margaret in an open topped car? A simple mis-indentification as the two women looked very much alike?

The adults behind me certainly seemed to think that we were all looking at the new Queen

Kidbrooke Update

As far as the Queens car is concerned, when it drove past me at Shooters Hill, it was certainly an open topped car as a couple of women behind me remarked "she wasn't even bothering to look round or smiling".

Chris, what happened about the wrestling classes?

Kidbrooke KIDBROOKE 41 YRS

Fascinating posts. I lived in Dursley Road from 1948 to 1989. I worked 1964 at Military Branch Books to the left of Kidbrooke Station for 4 years then at the Admiralty in London. The RAF Kidbrooke site right of Kidrooke Tunnel was No1 Barrage Balloon Site during WW2. Later I believe a Maintenance Unit. Now Thomas Tallis school. The MOD Air Publications and Forms Store was to the left of tunnel. Later a Royal Mail Depot. APFS also on other (south) side of road. APFS/Royal Mail sites now Ferrier Estate. APFS had steam later diesel locos I believe on standard gauge and the sites were joined by a bridge under the main road. RAF Loco 111 Aldwyth now at Leeds Industrial Museum or Yaxham(?) I went to Kidbrooke Primary then Charlton Manor. I too awaited the Queen and did not see her. Open or closed top car? Can't remember and it really doesn't matter does it?

Kidbrooke Route 132

Route 132 was extended to North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) via Kidbrooke Rochester Way and Greenwich Peninsula (Sainsburys and Filmworks Cinema) on the 24/01/09. Last Bus from Bexleyheath is around 00.20 hours and the last bus from North Greenwich Station (02 Arena) back towards Bexleyheath is just after 01.00 hours. So will benefit many people and will ensure people can get home quickly and safely after a night out.

Kidbrooke Westhorne manor school

Kidbrooke Westhorne Manor School

Westhorne Manor, an Eltham based secondary school never was an all-boys school - it was co-ecducational. I attended this particular school from 1955 till 1960. During this period I was a prefect; played goalkeeper and full-back for the football team. I frequently see one of the girls who was in the year below mine as she is a nurse at the NBS where I donate blood. In my class was a pretty girl named Kay Thatcher. There was two sisters in the school with the surname of Page - the first name of one of them was Gwen. Audrey Smith, another pretty girl, was in the year or two lower than me. I don't think the girls would like you calling them boys; or can't you tell the difference?

Kidbrooke RAF Kidbrooke

From 1948 till 1982 I lived in Kidbrooke and remember the Camp, which was located in Kidbrooke Park Road, very well. RAF Kidbrooke which I was led to believe was a supply depot stood on the site of what is now the Thomas Tallis school - the depot did NOT stand on any housing estates as they were located opposite.

Kidbrooke RAF KIdbrooke

RAF Kidbrooke.

I lived in Kidbrooke prefabs from 1945 until 1961 being among those first moved on after the 1958 Great Storm and flood.

I don’t know when the Kidbrooke airbase was first run down but it must have been very shortly after WW2 and it was rapid. When the base closed there was considerable equipment abandoned and hordes of local males descended on the site to “liberate” what ever was left. My late Father’s share was a large wooden bench which served us well until the bitter winter of 1963. To the best of my recollection the airbase was where the supermarket now stands.

Kidbrooke RAF Kidbrooke

Terrakunnene you have a faulty memory. RAF Kidbrooke stood on the site of the now Thomas Tallis School. I used to go past the depot en route to/from school and later to/from work in the late 1950s/early 1960s

The site of the now supermarket stood on the site a Royal Mail depot which bracketed BR Kidbrooke and the Kidbrooke Park Road. On the south side of BR Kidbrooke, the Royal Mail depot backed on the River Quaggy which was the northern perimeter of Sutcliffe Park. On the west side of the Kidbrooke Park Road, a coal yard was sandwiched between the railway track and the Royal Mail Depot.

Terra, if you are going to quote facts please get it right.
