I also recall the Scottish family who were ships engineers. I recall their son a giant of a lad strolling about in his kilt. The Ideal Cinema and the little old lady in her black shawl selling peanuts and wine gums. Kennington De Laune StreetI lived in De Laune Street from 1947 to 1973. Went to Henry Fawcett School and then Archbishop Tenison's at the Oval. Nothing but great memories even though we didn't have a bathroom (went to the publc baths in Lambeth Walk - a great experience), and our playgrounds were bombsites (the site of the old Kennington Theatre, which was hit during the war.) I too remember going down to Bob White's (great to hear from the Whie family, by the way) and also to that little pub in Cleaver Square - the Prince of Wales - where we had some great evenings in the early 60s. Kennington St Philips Demolished Church - Reedworth RoadHave lived in Lollard street for 16yrs now and recently saw the film S.W.A.L.K aka MELODY at the Media tech room BFI...starring Mark Lester! It opens with a slow shot panning back from the Houses of Parliament, where you can spot the old terrace houses and the church before it moves to the next shot of Kennington Cross Boy brigade marching! Does anyone have photos/stories or maybe website info that I could research....for years I looked at vestry building beside the demolished church and didn't have a clue it was a vestry..........would be good to see photographs of interior and reason why it was demolished! If you remember there was the main school in Hackford road, and the annex in Cormont road Brixton. Hackford Rd. is Durand primary, and Cormont Rd is now Charles Edward brooke girls.
