Harlesden Harlesden is the best

New superdrug, Tesco and subway. Parking in the high street being fixed and the chicken shops being replaced with better and better.

I have lived here for 10 years and have never seen so many improvments before. Really hope the place can keep its character after all the changes.

Harlesden Remember the old Ace Cafe?

In the course of research for a book, I am interviewing people who frequented the Ace Cafe at Stonebridge Park between 1938 and 1969 and have interesting recollections of this 24 hour caff in its original guise.

Harlesden Bensteds Music

Hi, I recently acquired a George Formby ukele banjo that belonged to my granndad or possibly great grandad and it has the address of the shop it came from as Bensteds, 22 Park Parade, Harlesden. I can find no mention on line and when I key in the address find that it is now a hairdressers. I just wondered if anyone knew at what point it ceased to be a music shop?

Harlesden Information sought re 4 Odessa Road, Harlesden in 1915/16

I am trying to trace my paternal ancestry and am interested in No 4 Odessa Road where I believe my father James Arthur Grieve was born on 18 Nov 1915. His mother was a Margaret Grieve, but I have so far been unable to trace his father. Other people living at the address or at No 4a at the time were Alexander Johnstone, Mrs A M Dewar and John Hills. Does anyone know anything about these people and if they had any connection with Margaret Grieve or my father?
I would be very grateful for any information. My email address is  Mail-me

Harlesden dont be afraid!

Hi

I've lived in Harlesden for around 18 months now. I can say that it's not better or worse than most of London, and it's reputation is (now) undeserved.

Harlesden HELP! Your views on the mobile shop!!!

I am thinking of starting up a mobile shop. Maily aimed at the elderly or dissabled.
The concept behind the mobile shop is for basic nessecities such as toothpaste, bread, milk etc where people can't get to the shop or don't have the time.
My mobile shop is like a take-away. You ring up from a leaflet, give your order and within 15/20 minutes you have your goods. Theres nothing worse than settling down for the night and realising you have no milk or cigarettes or maybe you just want a couple of sweets and drink for the night?

I want to ask for your help. If you feel this is a good idea or not? would you use the mobile shop if it was up and running? If there's a process like this already out there? It's based for those living in HARLESDEN ONLY.

Please leave your views.

Harlesden

I think it's a brilliant idea. There large numbers of elderly/disabled people in the area (my husband is a carer so I know) and I'm sure they would welcome such a service. Good luck
