Post or Ask something here in 'Hackney' Hackney 1966-1970 LONDON ROUTEMASTER BUS DRIVERS CONDUCTORS / CONDUCTRESSHi im desperatley looking for any semi retired / retired Bus drivers who either drove routmasters or conductered / conductressed them in the late 1960s.. My Birth mother was name Wendy Barson and she was a conductress poss working out of Stamford Hill bus depot., as she lived at Stoke Newington.. 1 Dunsmure Road. i do have a few photos of wendy, She worked with a bus driver Bill not sure if Bill was his name or nickname..? Also there was a driver called James or jimmy he was from malta and i think his wife may off been a conductress too.. ive photos of him in the late 60s. Joseph ward or waud believe he was greek cypriot ..? but he did have olive skin and dark hair working or living in the area. Hackney HACKNEYSorry to disagree with your comments about stabbings, muggings happen all over London that is simply not true. Where i was brought up even to this day you can walk the streets in the early morning and feel safe, leave your car door open all night and find it there in the same condition you left it in the morning. Leave your front door open during the day by mistake and knowing you are not going to get get robbed. Hackney You can take the boy out of Hackney but..........I lived in Hackney from 1960 until 1974 when I was Eighteen. I absolutely LOVED it. I lived in Regents Court on Pownall Road and made friends there and at St Pauls School. In my teenage years I hung around with the gang especially the crowd in Whiston Road. Happy days, wonderful memories and a East End that now no longer exists. I've lived in Kingston all my life and whilst I like it as it's quiet, clean and has a good town centre, I feel cut off from city life and when I get a new job in the new year I was thinking about moving more Central.
