Forest Hill

The top end of Forest Hill with views is supposed to be the best bit in Forest Hill according to the estate agents when I bought my flat at the bottom unfashionable end!
Forest Hill is getting the tube - an extension of the East London line from New Cross Gate which will give easy access to Canary whalf etc. This is had to be done for the Olympics.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/rail/initiatives/ell-introduction.shtml

The Dartmouth Arms is great and was in the Guardian colour mag a couple of weeks ago, a couple of nice shops and some not so great. You will also be very close to East Dulwich which is fab if you don't know the area - organic butchers, life-style furnishing shops etc etc.

Schools - Haberdashers secondary in New Cross is supposed to be very very good. Not sure if we are in catchment or not. Plus the Horniman museum is fab! So all in all I would say yeah to Forest Hill.

Forest Hill Forest Hill 1939

I was born in 1934 on Perry Hill, Catford. My first school was Perry Rise Preparatory School, Forest Hill, run in a private house in a road very close to the Fire Station. Did anyone else attend that school or remember family members mentioning it? My first day there was 5 September 1939 just after War was declared. I now live in Perth, Western Australia. My email address is  Mail-me .

Forest Hill Any likely property for rent for horse stable/s?

Does anyone know of/have seen any likely property/buildings space etc. that would be ideal for a stable/stables? To rent (not buy) Either need to be converted or done up etc? that would get planning permission for this purpose or has already? Or preferably anything existing, within Forest Hill or very local areas (Brockley, Honour Oak Park, Sydenham etc)please?
Also, anyone with knowledge of rights of way for horses in places such as Hilly Fields and other open spaces within Lewisham? I have heard there is indeed a bridlepath there (or at least horses hoofprints have been seen - could be the local mounted police though?)
Any info/comments at all please mail me

 Mail-me

Thanks in advance!

many thanks in advance

Forest Hill Need a recommendation..

Can anyone recommened a good local DIY man? I need someone who has experience in laying down laminate flooring. We live in an old Victorian property and our floor in the kitchen is not the straightest. Want to use someone who comes highly recommended. So, if you have hired someone to do your floor and you were more than happy with the end result then please let me know..?!
Many thanks

Forest Hill Tiling/Sanding not an option.

Well, we've already bought the tile effect laminate flooring. You're right though, some of it does look cheap and tacky but cheap is what we need right now, we need to get rid of the carpet in the kitchen which looks horrible and wrong.
Don't want to really tile the floor in the kitchen and if we sand the original floor boards our house will be freezing - too many gaps! So are you a professional..? Do you work for a company or is this something you do on the side? Are you local? More info please...

thanks

Forest Hill Places to go

Can anybody let me know if they can suggest a lively pub, preferably with a dance floor, or at least a disco night where there's a DJ that is local to the Forest Hill area (i.e. Crystal Palace, Sydenham, or Forest Hill itself), It seems to me you either go to a pub and sit and have a drink, or to a club which costs a lot and takes a lot of planning... is there anything in between locally??

Forest Hill HORNIMAN MUSEUM

WE ARE THINKING OF HAVING OUR WEDDING CEREMONY IN THE HORNIMAN MUSEUM CONSERVATORY IN FOREST HILL NEXT AUGUST. HAS ANYONE BEEN TO A WEDDING THERE? WHATS IT LIKE?

Post reply -->London Forest Hill KH 12 Dec

Forest Hill Weddings at the Horniman

We got married in August 2005 in the Conservatory at the Horniman...and had the reception there too. It was absolutely fantastic - everyone said what a unique venue it was and so beautiful. We were lucky with the weather - a perfect 23 degrees! We were worried about it being too hot under the glass in August. Also it looks so much better when the sun shines! If you go ahead we can strongly recommend Amanda Clay for photography and Suzanne James for catering, two acredited suppliers, both very professional and great results. It is pricey but was worth every penny...for a unique and local venue.

Forest Hill

I have lived in the Honor Oak/Forest Hill area for 13 years. The schools are very good here........which is why we have stayed so long. Fairlawn primary school is excellent as is the Roman Catholic schools and as for secondary schools; Forest hill school for boys is beyond excellent and Sydenham girls school is pretty good too!

Forest Hill TRAINS!!

Sorry to say this but it is pretty busy. I get the train at 8.20 (I only work in New Cross Gate) and I can get on but not usually sit down. You will be pretty squished by the time you get to London Bridge. Sorry, but at least I am not telling you you couldn't even get on!!!. Good luck with move if you want to meet up post a msg on the web.

Forest Hill

I have also just moved to FH from NW London and after 2 months of getting used to British Rail, I don't think the commute in terms of time to London is too bad. Trains times are quite regular. However, getting a seat on the train to London Bridge is a very rare treat.
