Post or Ask something here in 'Forest Hill' ^ Forest HillYou'd have to check but I think if you get the 185 bus to Lewisham and then DLR it into the wharf you'll only need zones 2 & 3. Takes me about 40 to 45 minutes door to door from the Brockley Rise area of Stanstead Road and the best bit is you don't have to use the tube! Alternatively you can get the 171 to New Cross Gate and then tube it, still avoiding zone 1 (I think) Post reply -->London Forest Hill CB 11 Sep ^ Forest Hill r.rrj@btopenworld.comIt is really easy; take any train to New Cross Gate and change to East London line. Take the tube to Canada Water and change to Jubilee Line - one stop to Canary Wharf. If you are lucky and it all clicks with connections it can take 30 minutes - or maybe 45 minutes if not so lucky! Post reply -->London Forest Hill 21 Sep ^ Forest HillThorn, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was thinking about the 2nd suggestion you made when writing the message. Although I was curious to know how much of a hassle it would be changing at NC. I'm curious to know if the EL line is frequent enough to rely upon it. If not, I might have to forget about the extra costs and travel via London Bridge. At the moment, ,I'm not sure where I'll be buying in FH. Thanks again for your message. Post reply -->London Forest Hill Bernadette 15 Aug ^ Forest HillMy pleasure. I'm afraid I never use the East London Line, nor New Cross Station, so I can't give you any indication of train regularity, etc. I have used the other route though, numerous times, and the only reservation I would have is that bus journeys, especially along busy routes like the South Circular, can be very lengthy depending on traffic Post reply -->London Forest Hill Thom 17 Aug ^ Forest HillHi I regularly commuted from Honor Oak Park station to Canary wharf via New Cross gate and then Canada Water - marginally quicker than via London bridge but if you miss your connections due to delays it can ake longer. Usually it took me station to station 25mins. Post reply -->London Forest Hill K 12 Sep ^ Forest HillOther option is P4 bus to Lewisham (speedy single decker) and then DLR. Fairly quick. Forest Hill Thinking of moving to Forest Hill!I am thinking of renting a place in Forest Hill but do not know the area very well. How safe is it for a female to be walking around alone, especially in the darker evenings in winter on my way back from work? I have heard that the Honor Oak side is the most sought after but what is the other side of the railway line like? Thanks! Post reply -->London Forest Hill Anna 27 Jul ^ Forest HillI live on Devonshire Rd, the Forest Hill end. In my opinion the most desirable part of Forest Hill is the part on the Dulwich side of the railway line as opposed to the Catford side. I am female and touch wood have never had any trouble. If you get the last train its still quite busy. We're about to move to Forest Hill. I read the pool was closed. Is it due to re-open any time soon? Also, where is the closest gym to the train station area? Thanks. Post reply -->London Forest Hill EF 7 Jul ^ Forest HillForest Hill swimming pool is closed for refurbishment. It will be open next year spring time. There's a gym a few yards away from Forest Hill station. Hope this helps ! Post reply -->London Forest Hill 8 Jul ^ Forest HillI would not bother with the gym opossit Forest Hill Station. Most of the cardio equiptment is broken Post reply -->London Forest Hill 21 Aug Forest Hill Any bus spotters?Hi I am a bus enthusiast. Am especially into the 208 but Ilike all routes, apart from the 35- series (e.g. 358) and minibuses with carpet on the ceiling. Does anyone want to hang out and talk about buses? Post reply -->London Forest Hill Alex 30 Jun ^ Forest Hill what about trainsWell my dear perhaps we can form an alliance as I am a train enthusiast. My favourites are the Catford Loop line, the Tattenham Corner service and I dont mind a bit of the Hayes service (fast to Ladywell) Post reply -->London Forest Hill the joelma building 2 Jul Forest Hill Paint -wanted, ends of, half, full, any colour, Free Please :o)I have a whole flat to decorate (way overdue) - by myself lol - on limited income so if you have any spare/leftover paint, basically any colour or amount, for free, even if only a little in tin or (if I am lucky) a full tin or more, please e-mail me (below) I will be mixing some olours etc. (hence no worries if dribs and drabs of different ones) so should be an interesting result LOL but it will definitely end up nicer and brighter than current paintwork lol Only thing is, I do not drive so really need areas local/near to Forest Hill, to collect from. Thankyou very much in advance :o) Mail-me Post reply -->London Forest Hill Scorpy Sue 27 Jun Forest Hill Sunderland Road? - Were thinking of buying a house on this road, any thoughts?Hello, my partner and I are planning on putting an offer in for house on Sunderland Road, near the old church. I'm moving from South Woodord, East London and don't know a great deal about this part of forest hill. Does any on have any thoughts? I'm also expecting a baby so would like to feel safe walking up and down Sunderland road on route to the shopping area Post reply -->London Forest Hill Marcee 9 Jun ^ Forest HillForest Hill is pretty decent although Id say that the part the opposite side of the railway tracks to where you are looking is more salubrious. Transport links are excellent and its usually quite busy so I dont mind too much walking around at night. In the dayime Id have no worries at all about walking around any of Forest Hill. Post reply -->London Forest Hill good old tone 23 Jun ^ Forest Hill Sunderland RdWe have lived in Sunderland Rd for the past 3.5 yrs & loved it here (we're further down near the Sth Circular end). We've had no problems, certainly not in day time, & I have 3 teenagers who I am happy to walk around on their way home at night, as I do myself. Transport links are great, & Dartmouth Rd is becoming busier with small interesting shops etc (Deja Nu, Tilt Bunka, 2 good florists, Village Way Hairdressers, to name a few I remember!). And of course we are have the Horniman Museum which is great for kids (but adults are allowed too!). In the time we've been here we have had no break-ins to house or cars, I think because its an area that people still look out for each other & their property. If you make the move get in touch Mail-me & we can tell you more. Post reply -->London Forest Hill Tracey 8 Jul Forest Hill Rubbish Removal?Does anyone know of a local company who does rubbish clearance as i need to move rubbish out of my flat and shed, i need someone who can prove they are waste regulated and not some drive-by who's gonna fly-tip my rubbish as i do care for the environment thats why i'm on this local site hoping someone will recommend a good company we can trust. thanks! Post reply -->London Forest Hill isabella 1 Jun ^ Forest Hill regarding rubbish removalShould try the council!i used their service before and its cheap and for sure your rubbish will be disposed of appropriately regards cris Post reply -->London Forest Hill 8 Jun Forest Hill Thinking of moving to Mayow Road in Forest HillI am currently living in Bromley and have seen a beautiful Victorian Flat on Mayow Road. My only concern is that I am not sure how safe the area is. It appears from the forums I have read that the East Dulwich end of FH is more desireable, and safer than the Mayow Road end. There is also the issue of the East London Line and the potential benefites it may or MAY NOT bring ? Can anyone advise on what this area is like in terms of safety and also as a potentia up coming area ? Post reply -->London Forest Hill kadi link 21 May ^ Forest Hill WhatForest Hill is a safe area. It is one of the quieter areas of the borough, which in turn has only this year lost the title of lowest crime rate of any inner London borough (to Wandsworth, but there's not much in it). The Horniman area is regarded as the better end for sure but it's all relative, no part is rough and if you like what you see there should be no real cause for concern in any part of SE23 or SE26. ELL is a few years away but should bring some changes - see Stratford. Post reply -->London Forest Hill Rich 24 May Forest Hill Stanstead RoadI am thinking of moving to Stanstead Road - the smaller part of the road that is nearer to Forest Hill Station. Can anyone give me some info of that area of Forest Hill Post reply -->London Forest Hill Helen 17 May Forest Hill Is Forest Hill Safe?My girlfriend and I have seen a flat in Forest Hill, just off Stanstead Road, which we are keen on and are thinking of renting. However a colleague has told me that Forest Hill is not a particularly safe area, particularly the station, and that we would be better off renting in East Dulwich. Since my girlfriend will be using the station this is slightly worrying - can anyone advise us as to what the station is like, and more generally how safe/nice Forest Hill is as a place to live in comparison to East Dulwich? Post reply -->London Forest Hill Andy 9 May ^ Forest Hill RE: Forest Hill StationHi Andy, I've lived in Forest Hill for 5 years and I've found the station to be ok. If anything, I've felt less safe getting off at E Dulwich station late at night. Of course there have been incidents of street crime in our area but I would say they're still relatively rare and sadly it seems to be a reality right across London. I certainly wouldn't single out Forest Hill as being particularly unsafe. I would far rather live here than parts of Clapham for instance. It has a nice 'small town' feel with a good cross-section of people living here and is becoming much more popular with young professionals. Local opinion is that North of Forest Hill station on the Horniman Museum side is seen as 'more desirable' than the Perry Vale side - but there are plenty of nice streets there too with a good stock of Victorian houses. Depends what you want... Post reply -->London Forest Hill Cathy 12 May |
