The girls were based in Dagenham through the 1940s and 50s. The troupe was run by three sisters named Pat, Sheila and Maureen Murphy. I have a list of some of the names of the dancers as follows: Rene & Rosie (cousins), Eileen Bates, Patty Pearce, Mary Vary, Rene Cutmore, Queenie Butler, Sheila Payne, Betty Howes and Violet (Vi) Shaves. If anyone has any information (no matter how small) about the Windorettes please post a reply. They played at many Theatres, East Ham Palace Theatre being a regular venue for them, they also entertained civilians in air raid shelters during the blitz. Thanks for any help, Dan James. please reply to Mail-me Post reply -->London East Ham Dan James 26 Mar ^ East HamMy grandmother was a Windsorette, and could very well be one of those names from your list. I'm not sure of her surname prior to marriage (pre 1950), but certainly one of those first names is correct. You'll understand me not wanting to give any other details online, for safety's sake, but if you would like to discuss it further then contact at Mail-me Post reply -->London East Ham 7 May ^ East Hamhave you any idea how old the Maureen Murphy was in the 40's 50's I may have a connection email Mail-me Post reply -->London East Ham maree 8 Jun East Ham austin timber works 1954hi im trying to find pictures or information of a place called austin timber works 2 abbots road eastham e6 my grandad was a night watch man there in 1954 hes name henry william green can anyone help please Mail-me Post reply -->London East Ham deb 13 Feb ^ East Hammy mum used to work there when I was about 5 years old (45 years ago) she used to build frames i think and made everyone laugh - her boss was called albert and she worked with Rene & Shirley and her name was Inge. Sadly my mum passed away. We lived in Aintree Avenue a few roads away.Apparently the ghost of a monk haunted the place cos it was next to friars road.Mum reckoned she saw him once! As a child approx 13 yrs of age, I together with a friend, buncked into the theatre, on the balcony we were loaned some opera glasses by a couple (surprise, surprise) on the stage was an artists palette with topless girls taking the place of blobs of paint in various colours, their skirts were every bright colours imaginable. What an experience, never to be forgotten. Mum and Dad never knew that their little girl had seen such things!!
