We were sad to move as we lost lots of friends who lived there. Us kids loved the area, especially walking along the canal. I remember Windmill Lane well. My father was born there in 1914 and I was bought up in deptford just off Tanners Hill. Also what was the name of the fish mongers in Deptford High Street, was it Purdy's, I remember the man who used to sell the fish in the 1950's and 1960's, I am told his appeared in a TV programme, does anyone know what programme it was. The oldest brother used to run the business but his wife died in her early thirties and he walked the Steets begging for the rest of his life. My wife & her cousins all went to Lucas Vale primary school in the late 50's. They lived in Strickland St and Admiral St ( both off Albyn Rd). My father was one of the Bowley's that worked at the bakery in Harton Street and in Albyn Road. Iornic that we were loking at "Google Earth" last night to see how things have changed. We were married at St John's church at the top of St Johns Vale. We came to Australia in 1980 and live in Queensland. I was madly in love with one of your assistants she fair haired nearer blond. I was only 10 at the time and she bought me a cream horn I was over the moon. I also sang in St.John's choir Mrs Keylock used to take us for practice, her family had the Ironmongers shop in Evelyn St. and she used to live in Breakspear Road. I am at Mail-me ,I now live in France Cheers Ted Hughes Post reply -->London Deptford 21 May ^ Deptford BOWLEYSI remember Bowleys so well, they did lovely bread and cakes, we lived in Cranbrook Road and I used to go to Lucas Vale and on my way home used to watch the bakers bake bread in Oscar Street. Do you remember Chitty's Fish and Chips on the corner of Harton and Cranbrook Road and Finch's on the corner of Vanguard and Harton. I have done a number of Lucas Vale reunions where we looked around the school. I still remember friends from that far back, The Smiths of Cranbrook Road, Pat Wasp of Brockley and Judith Bowden of Loampit Vale. etc.. I would be interested to hear from you. I am Mail-me Post reply -->London Deptford Alan Rickard 19 Feb ^ DeptfordI lived in Harton Street three doors from Bowleys and as a small child love Joyce Bowley who worked there and also used to go to school with my mother. She was a a lovely kind lady and would like to know what happened to here and the family. There is still one of their shops in Coney Hall. With regard to Mr Wynne, I used to go the the lake district with him and have photos if anyone is interested. He didn't die in the Woowich bombing as inured to see him in the Royal Albert pub after the event. He did however die soon after as a result of the injuries he sustained. It was Winnie who changed the school football strip to match Westhams, but the bastards changed it back to green after he died. I also used to go with him to Westham to watch the games.
