Post or Ask something here in 'Clapton' ^ Clapton Thang Long Houseon Chatsworth Road for Vietnamese cuisine, basic decor, canteen stlyle and very tasty! Don't know about after closing time though, sorry. Post reply -->London Clapton Nikki ^ Clapton Ming 98 Northwold Rd 0208 806 3804This is the really good Chinese in Clapton. The other one, who shall remain nameless here, puts "chinese taste powder" ie msg monosodium glutamate in all their stuff and is to be avoided as all their dishes are chemical and dreadful and said so by all my friends who tried them. Ming don't do that and are quality and they offer takeaway 5pm till midnight Tues-Sun and delivery till 11pm. They do Cantonese, Peking, Szechuan and they're great. They do the best chips and pancake rolls in Clapton and their curries and chicken dishes are delicious. Also, we are blessed with the Bagel shop on the corner of Northwold Rd and Reighton Rd till about midnight, lots of lovely stuff, a bit expensive but worth it. Very popular so be ready to queue...also about 5 kebab and/or chicken places, alright if you're in a hurry or need a change from Ming and Bagel - the best one is Fishermans Inn who do good fish and chips and chicken and kebabs - say "fingers and toes" and they'll whoop and shout and laugh Post reply -->London Clapton bw 26 Jul ^ Clapton The Crooked Billet in Upper Clapton Rdserve food till 10.30pm. Alternatively go west to Stoke Newington which is 3 minutes by 106 106N 393 buses or 15 minutes walk and there are about 15 restaurants, 15 cafes and 15 pubs to choose from. And Clissold park with the wildlife sanctuary including deer (yes, deer!), guinea pigs, rabbits, etc all kinds of birds and lots of beasties in the water - and a great cafe and tennis courts. My favourite pub in Stokey is the Rochester Arms which is on Stoke Newington High St and serves all kinds of food up till about 10.30 including a big list of cheapies ie 2 dinners for £6, and has a nice back garden. And they have curry nights on Thursdays and other specialist foods at other times. There are also loads of Indians, Chinese, Thai etc restaurants, and clubs and all night Polish drinking clubs and all night Turkish/Greek(?) pool halls, mostly free to enter, and serving food as well as drink. The choice and variety is almost as great as in Camden. Then walk south down Stoke Newington High S Post reply -->London Clapton bw 26 Jul ^ Clapton Lots of buses 253 253N 254 106 106N 393 38 38N 48 48N 55 56 56Nand 2 minutes by 106 106 N bus or 10 minutes walk to Stoke Newington and you can get the 67 67N 73 73N 76 76N 149 149N 243 and 243N buses to Dalston, Hoxton, Old Street, Islington, Tottenham etc. And Clapton BR zone 2/3 goes to Liverpool St in 9 mins - and Rectory Rd BR (Liverpool St in 10 minutes) is five minutes walk down Evering Road. So Clapton is very well served, which is part of why I've stayed here for 17 years. Post reply -->London Clapton bw 26 Jul ^ Clapton Excellent Cab ServiceI use JIMAC radio cars very frequently, they are reasonbly priced for getting to the City, reliable and the driver very pleasant JIMAC 020 8985 5151 or 020 8985 5100 Post reply -->London Clapton Sandy ^ Clapton | These aren't commercial ads below: they are a rotating selection of postings contributed by MoveThat.com users in the last 24h. |
^ Clapton Upper Clapton RoadThere was a good NHS dentist here roughly opposite the Shell garage about 2 years ago I think its still there. I had a wisdom tooth pulled there (with Kiss FM playing in the background) and didn't get septicemia! Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton Yes theres a Sainsburys by Ridley Rd Market and a Tescos too^ Clapton Supermarkets in ClaptonThere is a Tescos in Hackney Central on Mare St, about 10 - 15 mins walk depending on where u r in clapton. Also a Somerfields at the Northern end of the narrow way. Post reply -->London Clapton supermarket romance friend ^ Clapton Clapton FCClapton FC play in the Ryman League. it's a good standard of football but why not have a go. They actually play down the road at Forest Gate E7 having originally played in Clapton where the Downs Hotel was their HQ. email me for further info Mail-me Post reply -->London Clapton Andy ^ Clapton leisure centreKings Hall Leisure centre is a good facility - lower clapton rd see the hackney borough website for details Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton Kings Hall Leisure Centre, 39 Lower Clapton Road^ Claptonthere's a women only gym on northwold rd at the bottom end - called sunstone I think Post reply -->London Clapton 26 Nov ^ Clapton Not to bad...Now that the central line is almost working you can actually get a seat on the train in the morning! Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton GP practiceI've been going to the Lower Clapton Health Centre for the past 10 years. It's busy and you do have to wait for an appointment if you pick one of the longer-standing doctors - but I've found all the doctors really good here. It's at 36 Lower Clapton Road, E5. (020 8986 7111) Post reply -->London Clapton Carol 7 May ^ Clapton lower clapton group practicevery nice plenty of women and nice male doctors. same day appointments Post reply -->London Clapton 1 Nov ^ Clapton Nightingale PracticeNightingale Practice on Kenninghall Road have some great Doctors (male and female). The appointment system changes occasionally as they've been testing different solutions - but you won't have to wait long to be seen for anything that is urgent. Post reply -->London Clapton MC 31 Aug ^ Clapton Awful and it isnt even that cheapIt's a horrible part of London, dangerous practically all the time, day and night, full of council estates and poverty stricken miserable people. There isn't a tube but there's lots of buses, renting is actually quite pricey because it's near the city. Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton All good - allgood@orange.netI've lived on Evering Road for 2.5 years and it's alright. There are alot of nice properties around and at not a bad price for Zone 2. There is no tube but Manor House and even Finsbury Park aren't far by bus - and if you want to go into the City then train or bus is easy. The north London line will be improved especially with the Olympics bid. I find it pretty chilled and alot of mates are pretty impressed especially when they realise how close it is to the City, the Angel and Old Street. For going out more locally there is always Hackney Central (on the up) and Stoke Newington which is generally safe and has a Queens Park vibe to it. All in all I would recommend it as it is cheaper than other Zone 2 places and has the alot of greenery around the River Lea plus there is still alot of upside on your investment if you are thinking of buying. For example - they have just opened a Sainsbury's local at the end of my road which just shows how classy it is becoming! Post reply -->London Clapton ease 23 Jun ^ Clapton I love itBusy, bustling, colourful, loads of busses, tiny shops, you can get pretty much anything you need at affordable prices. If you need anything else, or posher ;), take the 55 bus to Oxford Street and you can alight anywhere in Bloomsbury within 40 minutes. Post reply -->London Clapton 6 Oct ^ Clapton CLAPTON’S GREAT!You’d be surprised by the number of professionals living in Clapton – university lecturers; film and TV people; psychologists; educators etc. They all have one thing in common – they’re NOT BORING! - just like this vibrant area. Clapton’s professionals are secure in their own trendiness – they don’t need to have it confirmed by twee surroundings. Clapton’s Victorian houses are bigger, deeper and more substantial. It has the River Lea and Springfield Park It’s close to the city. It’s a multi-cultural haven with Jews and Moslems living peacefully side by side. We’ve lived here safely for 9 years – people mind their own business and don’t interfere. All Clapton needs is a cash injection in the main shopping parade (are you listening Hackney Council?) and the red route removed so that local shopkeepers can flourish. Post reply -->London Clapton 12 Nov ^ Clapton What were you expecting? Mayfair?Clapton is super convenient if you travel by bus, as Grumpy grudgingly admits. It's also full of remarkably friendly people, if you're nice to them. Smiley service in shops and good manners on buses. There is a lot of crime but if you're reasonably careful and don't flash your cash/phone, it's unlikely to really affect you. Yes people round there don't have much money, so what? And does Grouchy perhaps have a problem with such a high proportion of the people around him (I assume) being black/asian? Hmm sounds like it to me.... There are great take aways, I recommend the new India Gate on Lower Clapton Road. You can eat the food, wear the clothes and worship the religions of just about any country in the world. If you have a problem with that then move to Highgate. Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton ItThere are now red jacket wardens patrolling Clapton and Stamford Hill, the gangsta club has been busted and closed down and a lot of the wrong'uns have been locked up - so it's getting better. Post reply -->London Clapton Bill Wood 26 Jul ^ ClaptonI have to agree that Clapton is not so bad. I live on a nice, quiet street just across from Clapton NR station. There are lots of council housing, quite a few where I live, but I haven't noticed any real problems - perhaps just some shady characters lurking about. I moved there recently from lovely Camden, so I've got a good measuring stick to go by - Clapton is A-OK! BTW - I'm American, so I'm all-around nervous in London though I've been here a while...I wouldn't say Clapton was a generally good area if I wasn't confident of it. Post reply -->London Clapton ^ Clapton Clapton is fineIf you are a miserable person anyway then Clapton may seem like a miserable place. Any non-posh area of London looks miserable if you're in a bad mood. Cheer up, walk along Powerscroft Road on a sunny day and stop off at the corner shop near the park, or listen to the capoeira singers in the church at the other end... maybe even go and buy a reggae record on Lower Clapton Road! And on the way, go and look at the Everything Is Going To Be Alright banner on the church by the bus stop. Post reply -->London Clapton 10 May ^ Clapton The EclipseClapton is okay, if a bit rough around the edges. The area is changing fast, mainly due to property prices. Check out The Eclipse on the corner of Elderfield and Blurton Roads. It's one of the best bars around, if I say so myself. You'll get a sense of how the place is changing. There's some great shops too. Post reply -->London Clapton niall@the-eclipse.com 16 May ^ Clapton Clapton: a funky little neighbourhoodthe capuccino bars have yet to arrive in Upper Clapton, but it's a cool neighbourhood. Lots of lovely Victorian houses, but not as precious, snobby or full of New Middle Class Mums as Stokey. My neighbours are all "creatives", but not the type you want to strangle.
