Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive gym and/or some fun pubs in the area? Thanks. Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Jonathan 4 Sep ^ Canary WharfHi, I know a good gym in Tiller road-westferry just 10 min walk from the business and bank complexes which is not expensive in comparison with the others in this area. They propose some club fixed prices and also pay as you go. Their phone is: 020 7987 5211 Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Cathy 6 Sep ^ Canary Wharf THREE GYMs1. Virgin Active (Canary Wharf Riverside) 2. LA Fitness (Westferry) 3. Reebok Club (Cabot place shopping centre) LA Fitness is by far the most inexpensive one. Virgin Active offers wider range of activities, but expensive. My husband and I are moving back to the UK (from Australia) for work and would like to live in Canary Wharf (did for a while a couple of years ago). However, we now have a beautiful 1yr old dog (on the larger side) and we really can't find any rental websites with listings that will allow dogs. Does anyone have any info/real estates/or know anyone who will lease out an apt or house to a lovely Australian couple (early 40s) with a great dog? Please reply to Mail-me Thanks ! Thanks! =) Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Molly 2 Jun ^ Canary Wharfthe crowne plaza hotel in docklands is a great choice. a private gym with state of the art facilities. Post reply -->London Canary Wharf JAY 30 Jun Canary Wharf Misspelling of Canary WharfIs the name of Canary Wharf misspelt? For example, in the days of the 'old' dockland, Canary Wharf had nothing to do with birds, but caNNed (two 'n's) food was offloaded at this particular wharf. We all appreciate the fact that the North Americans did a marveloous job redeveloping the docklands, but they made a mistake in the spelling, eh! Therefore should the signs and pronounciation be corrected accordingly? Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Chris Miller 22 May ^ Canary Wharf canary wharf - Canary Island (Spain)Canary Wharf takes its name from the sea trade with the Canary Islands, whose name comes from the dogs (Latin canis) which the Spaniards found there, producing the linguistic coincidence of trade between the Dog Islands and the Isle of Dogs. Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Juan 18 Jun ^ Canary Wharfer, no mate. The name derived from the site itself, the building type and its regular contents. gear from the canary islands was offloaded into that particular wharf - warehouse and repository foreign. ? or something...? I can vividly remember light 'stol' planes testing the empty strip out as a possible sight for the then looming new city airport we were getting, but the planners' decided to move the city here instead, canning town got the planes, the island got the skyline some of the original docks have been reclaimed - giant shuttering, sand n gravelled, concreted out- and yeah there are some ridiculous new names that bear no apparent meaning historicly or otherwise. I used to live at South Queys for almost three years, untill I moved into the city. I liked it very much living at the Isle of Dogs, rather posh! When I was there I joined the gym at the Royal Brittinia Hotel, Canary Wharf. A very small private gym with a sauna, steam room and swimming pool and jacuzzi. If you like quiet and private gyms to relax and workout without heavyweight competitors you really should check this one out! Good Luck Post reply -->London Canary Wharf sammi 14 Feb ^ Canary Wharf Moving in CWHi, As my job, I'm moving in London and I will work in Canary Warf. I think to live in that area too in order to be close to Canada Square. How is living there? Can you suggest me someone who is renting a room or some web site? Many many thanks Best, Simone Post reply -->London Canary Wharf simone_ragazzi@hotmail.com 18 Aug Canary Wharf AREAS IN CANARY WHARFHi Just about to move to a flat in New Providence Wharf near Blackwall. Is this classed as Canary wharf, Isle of Dogs or Limehouse/Poplar?? Am getting very confused by all the different names of places in 1 area!! Also, is it a safe area to walk home from Canary wharf to from work? Is it lively in Canary Wharf or is it dead at the weekends? Thanks x Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Lisa Vassallo 24 Jan ^ Canary WharfWelcome to CW! ;) I think that area is poplar, but most people associate everything here with canary wharf so its best to use that name. Yeah, it is very confusing! I stay on the other side of canary wharf (west ferry road) and find that area reasonably safe. I walk to and from office, never had a problem - probably also coz there are so many other people doing the same thing. Perhaps it will be prudent to take a cab if you go home very late in the night. Canary wharf is still quite dead in the weekends compared to central london.... but there are a few good places for lunch and dinner which are packed, and a coupla pubs/lounges which draw crowds even on a weekend. I have been here for over a year now, so if you have any Qs, drop me a note at Mail-me and I'll try my best to answer them... Cheers, G Post reply -->London Canary Wharf G 3 Feb ^ Canary Wharf CANARY WHARF^ Canary Wharf hihi - have you moved into this place? whats it like? i am trying desperatly to find a place in canary wharf ( with parking) and i am failing - any tips? Post reply -->London Canary Wharf son500@hotmail.com 1 Apr ^ Canary WharfYour not looking for a flat mate are you? I'm a 23yr old male starting work nxt week in South Quay? neil Mail-me Post reply -->London Canary Wharf 10 Oct ^ Canary Wharf canary wharf where to liveHi. used to live in New Providence Wharf - think you can still get a studio there for under £300K. Its lovely - one of the best new developments, good quality - and underground parking you can buy as extra. Amazing river views and right by canary wharf. Canary Wharf is a fantastic place to live; open air events in the summer, great facilities, restaurants and bars, clean and safe. Good doctors too - the Barkantine Practice on Westferry Road. Jubilee line takes you straight into central and west london. You'll love it! Post reply -->London Canary Wharf Viv 3 Apr |
