Errol Linton’s work transports the spectator immediately into a world of hustle and bustle filled with music, and voices, melting them into an explosion of colour, pattern and form. Bold in colour and brush stroke, Linton’s paintings at first remind the viewer of fauvism and surrealism yet they are very idiosyncratic in style and denote of the artist’s unique power of imagination and strength of expression. In the same way that a citrus fruit is a collection of smaller fruits storing a cocktail of nutrients, a simple painting can harbour a rich narrative. This is the basis of LaRocque’s second exhibition; to display a selection of works that are distinctly feminine in tone, Afro-Caribbean in perspective, yet universal in spirit. A multimedia installation by artists Sam Sutcliffe & Marlon Diamond.Red Gate Gallery 209a Coldharbour Lane London SW9 8RU Private View: Tues 5th of January 2010 - 6 pm to 11 pm Exhibition runs from: Mon 4th of January 2010 – Tuesday 5th January 2010 Gallery Opening Hours: Mon, Tues: 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm Last day of Exhibition: Tues 5th of Dec: 11.00am to 5.00pm ‘Incandescence’ is a collaborative installation by video artists Sam Sutcliffe and Marlon Diamond. Using video, audio and photography the exhibition examines the aspirational side of human behaviour. The installation does not limit itself to age, race or gender. Everyone’s contribution is unique and valid, we all dream and aspire whether attainable or not. Human aspirations are a vague, fantastical, ambivalent and dream-like facet of identity yet are a very true part of peoples’ personalities. ‘Incandescence’ will question what it is that drives us to aspire and how do social constraints affect this very human phenomenon? Post reply -->London Brixton 22 Oct ^ Brixton Brixton Whats the area like around Coldharbour Lane?Hiya, I had the same concerns when I thought of moving into the same area 5 months ago. I can gladly tell you that for the petite woman that I am who usually walks home alone at 3am on the weekend, I have had no harm befall me and I've always feel safe in the area in all the time I've lived there. I have friends who lived around these parts around 5yrs and they concede that the area has greatly improved and they don't worry for me. I hope this helps and touch wood, I hope the area remains so. Good luck and if you are in the area already, welcome and have fun! She photographs the female form and her subject matter lies within the many complexities of the female body and identity. Solomon studied photography but since then has decided to introduce a range of mediums to give variety to his work. The two techniques he has predominately associated himself with now are painting and printmaking. From the macabre to the topical Solomon’s work embraces these issues often using collage to emphasis the artists fragmented view point. She draws on her own life experiences as a basis for her work. Our society’s emphasis on wealth and celebrity status causes both isolation and exclusion within our communities. Todd’s artwork focuses on the emotional impacts on identity, both individually, and as a collective community group. Her sculptures attempt to strengthen our understanding of one another and encourage positive interactions.
