Bow looks like a convenient and interesting place to live but I would really like to get some feedback from some locals. My husband is a builder and roofer and I am a librarian and we will be looking for employment while we are there. We are moving with our 14 year old son so we want a safe neighborhood that maybe has a decent school nearby. Any information about living in Bow would be greatly appreciated. Mail-me . Ideally would like to be located for an easy commute to the wharf and easy to get to the West End. We tried a couple of Dentists near us and they were run-down and the dentists were disinterested so much so we did not go back. Then a friend recommended Marian Lewis's practice in Roman Road. What a diference! Very clean, professional but friendly and the Dentist we saw had been there 10 years and so had most of the staff. It really made a difference. Council tax for Band B property is £844 per year, this is spread over a 10 month period (£84 per month) with a 2 month break in Feb and march. I think a one bed would come under Band B. For water we pay direct debit £20per month. For electric and gas we set the rate at £15 per month for each, we get estimated bills which are always way over but these can be rectified by having a meter reading done. Hope this helps. We noticed that quite a few planes went overhead. We wondered: First, do the planes regularly pass over the area? Second, if so, do you tend to notice them? However the aircraft that are permitted to land and take off from there are restricted, both in terms of size and the silencing they are required to have, so they are not as intrusive as the monsters that fly into Heathrow. In addition, the airport has restricted opening hours - it is closed at night, and also between 1pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday, although there are few flights at weekends anyway.
