Post or Ask something here in 'Bermondsey' Bermondsey Aylwin Grammar School for GirlsHi all, I was at Aylwin from 1963-1970 and my name is Patricia Holmes. I am still in contact with Kathy Percival, Ros Blaquiere, Sue Maisey, Rita Whittington and Anita Sams and Joan Tucker, does anyone remember us? Miss Percy was our head, our French teacher was Miss Murtough who loved Arkle and point to point (and whom I will thank forever as I now live in France, Joan lives in Canada). Our RE teacher was Mrs Arditi, the rest I would remember if promted, there was a Czech calligraphy teacher, a male typing teacher and the rest I remember events but not names. It became a comprehensive in the Upper 6th when war was declared by the schools we linked with, they must have thought us awful snobs as we had a uniform. Sadly Christine Scarborough is no longer with us but others have popped up from time to time. Anyone else out there? I was there at a time when we parted in the corridor like the Red Sea if a teacher were behind us and eating in school uniform was strictly banned, God he Post reply -->London Bermondsey Patricia Holmes 9 Mar Bermondsey Photos of Layard RoadHello all, I am trying to find old photos of Layard Road. In 1871 and 1881 census they were living in no. 39. Just wondered if anyone would have any pics of that area from around that time or even from now. My g-g-grandfather was a brewers labourer so I assume it must have been the Courage brewery (Anchor?). Any pics of the brewery would be appreciated as well. Also, anyone know where any employment records would be held now? The idea is to tell the history of the park in the words of local people, culminating in a book, “Our Park”, which will be published this summer. We would like to hear from people, of all ages, who are willing to either be interviewed or to write something for us. Do you have any memories of using the park when you were a child? Or the lido? The Rose Garden? What about the park's future? Or anything you care to recall! All contributions will be considered for inclusion in the book. If you are interested in getting involved in the “Our Park” reminiscence project please contact us through this forum or on Mail-me Look forward to hearing from you. Not only were you not allowed to walk thro' the Rose garden, but if you did and was seen by the gardener who seemed to work only in that area, he would chase after you and out of the nearest gate. We used to call him Creepin' Jesus. In the park there were only 3 horsechestnut trees( conker trees) which were along the main road thro', not only were there fences around them but also KEEP OFF THE GRASS notices. Come September we still managed to play conkers. Post reply -->London Bermondsey Jim Roll 21 Jan Bermondsey Earl Road BermondseyDid you live in Earl Road in the mid-sixtes?
