Bellingham Larcombes, Swimming Pool and all.

Larcombes I think is the correct spelling, they had a model bakery which was very unusual in the 50s and 60s, Mr Larcombe drove a Ford V8 Pilot again very rare even to have a car then, my dad had the only car in our street, Broadmead!
The pool was actually at the corner of Randlesdown Rd and Bromley Rd, bunked off school a few times to go there!
Bellingham was built before the 2nd World War, Slmilar time as Downham, was to house people from the clearance of poorer housing in Lambeth, Bermondsey etc, was very nice as the blocks had allotments in the middle, great for plaiying cowboys and indians, no telly or ipods then. There are some post war houses due to V1s falling short of Sydenham gasworks, also a good place to get into for a lark. Henry Cooper trained at the Fellowship Inn, is it still there? Also on of the survivors from HMS Hood lived there.

Bellingham Best Indian Takeaway

We cannot believe that we have such a great Indian Takeaway so close to where we live in Bellingham.

'Baburchi' provides excellent and authentic Indian food that is not only affordable but does not insult those of us who know what Indian food really tastes like. The food is not a watered down version to appease the palates of those who find Indian food to be "too spicy!" Their Tandoori Chicken is absolutely delicious and something that has to be tried with their Pilau Rice.

Bellingham has many hidden treasures!!!

Bellingham Bellingham Green Family Play Area wins Award!!!

Great!!! It's good to know that our park gets recognition for it's contribution to family life in Bellingham.
Not only is it a beautiful park to look at and chill out in but, it has wonderful play and rhyming sessions for the "Under 5's."
The basketball and football court is shared by people of all ages and has a very inclusive feel about it. It's nice to see children, teens and adults playing together!
WELL DONE!!!

Bellingham Bellingham is a nice place to live in

Upon reading many of the messages that have been posted on this site you could be lead to believe that this is a notoriously crime-ridden place. Please, do not be fooled! I can understand why many people that reside here want to put others off from moving here. They fear that any change may affect the sense of community that is strongly felt here. That (I believe) is the underlying reason why there are some negative postings on this site.
Anyway, come and chill out here and see for yourselves!!!

Bellingham

Bellingham was a lovely place to grow up in the 50's and 6o's people took pride in their front gardens now there are scruffy gardens, dog mess, and plenty of litter and no community. Robinson's jam factory we returned our empty jam jars to get money to go swimming at Bellingham baths, such a shame that has all gone.

Bellingham Bellingham is great!

We recently bought a property here and for the young and the old there are provisions that cater for the differing ages. At last, there is an area i London where people of all ages feel a great sense of belonging and acceptance. THere is a great sense of community and we cannot think of a better place to live....definitely South East London's best kept secret!
