Barbican Sports centre / swimming pool

There's one in the Corporation's leisure centre at Fann Street. See
http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/leisure_heritage/sporting_activities/golden_lane.htm

Also there is rather more 'community' in Barbican than other poster(s) have indicated here... see for instance
http://www.barbicantalk.com/ and also
http://www.barbicanliving.co.uk/

Jan 2004.

Barbican Private Gyms

Place is surrounded by them - two Holmes Places, Lambs Club, Fitness First, LA Fitness - all have places within short walk (One of the Holmes Places is actually in the Barbican complex). Also at much lower cost the YMCA has a gym adjacent to the Barbican Complex (right next door to Holmes Place)

Barbican Doesnt matter (you can walk to a lot of places), but...

I find that the Northern Line is ok - it seems to empty out a lot in the city. Central line is often pretty packed, but I've always been able to get on.

Barbican Dumb question about packed trains

Im sorry but this is a really dumb question. who would even think of asking it. of course trains are packed in the morning at peak times after peak they aren't so bad, but you do have 3 different lines you could use (hammersmith and city, circle and met lines)

Barbican

Absolutely horrendous! Concrete jungle, walking adjacent streets ie. Whitecross Street at night is akin to being in South Central L.A - many `interesting` characters clutching cans of beer and if you are really lucky may even be escorted by young men on bicycles uttering words of few letters. Perhaps they can`t rub more than 3 letters together. My advice - MOVE

Barbican

Maybe YOU should move - back to a gated community in the home counties inhabited by other Dail Mail readers... Barbican is one of the safest and nicest places in central London, but being in central London people from all social / economic groups live in the area. I like the fact that it's quiet at the weekends, and to be honest I really like the concrete too.

Barbican Barbican Paradise

The Barbican contains 2 very large private gardens with children's playgrounds. One huge lake full of carp, One large conservatory full of cacti and plants, concert hall, cinemas and theatres all in one place. There is a swimming pool and two health clubs as well as doctors, dentist and a (city) police station all within the self contained Barbican Estate. The Architecture is now grade II listed and considered an excellent example of 1970s design (now fashionable). The towers have the highest residential views in Europe.
