Retired The Retirement Show

On Saturday, 18th July, I attended the annual "The Retirement Show" at London's Olympia. There were many themes which were directed to the retired/semi retired/about to retire so I recommend the show as appropriate. Visitors may pre-register for a free ticket by logging onto website and following the links. If one does not have access to the internet, one can contact PRo Global Media, tel: 01372 7243837. Advertisments are displayed in the Retirement Today Magazine, Saga Magazine, The Daily Mail, the U3A magazine, Choice magazine and many other publications.

As you already know one thing leads to another so this show might lead you to daytime activities which may help you enjoy your retirement.

Retired Over 60s Groups

In consequence of my pending retirement I recently did some research so that I may occupy my daytimes. I recommend readers to refer to their local Age Concern office as they may provide listings of local 'Over 60's groups as that is what my local Age Concern gave me.

Not that I have any experience as yet but maybe some of these groups may be very good. Well, they are an option as regards finding companionship and activities to enjoy your daytime!

Retired University of the Third Age

Since I am about to retire my recently research discovered the University of the Third Age which is an organisation for the retired/semi retired. The U3A have local groups all over the place. I personally applied for membership as they offer a variety of daytime activities that look appealing.

The National Office has a telephone number which is (020) 8466 6139; ( Mail-me ). Perhaps this group might be an option to being alone or bored.

Retired Over 60s Art Group

I would be keen to have feedback about interest in an Art Group for people over 60 years old. I am a professional artist & art therapist and feel that most art tuition does not take mature beginners seriously. Feel free to email me  Mail-me  with your experiences and perspectives: inspiration? technique? exhibiting? Help me find out what older new artists really want. JP

Retired Reading Aloud

'He do the Policeman in different voices'
I am a professional man in full-time work, early 40s based in Islington. I am also training to become an actor in my time off.
I am offering my services to read aloud to people who may no longer be able to enjoy reading. I would be happy to make a regular commitment every week to read to either a group or individuals, anything from their favourite classics to the latest novels.
I can provide references.

Retired O.A.Ps: Are you over 60 years or do you know anyone over 60 years?

My email

 Mail-me

Hi,

Would they like a social fun group?

Is there a market for over 60 clubs? For example, A club for about 10 people over 60 in a local area, to get together maybe once or twice a week, and have a coffee, play some cards, or chess?...

What do you think they'd like to do? What woudl you liek to do?

Would older people be interested in a film club instead of a book club? For example, coming to a huge hall to watch a film on a wide screen to chat about it after?

What would put them off and what would make them be interested?

If you are over 60 and in the Richmond area, I would especially like to hear from you.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks.

F.

My mother lives in Marble Arch and would love to set up a card playing/social event on a regular basis. If anyone is interested (or has friends/parents who they know whould like this) please contact me in the first instance.
Many thanks
Mark

Retired HELP! Would you use the mobile shop????!!

I am thinking of starting up a mobile shop. Maily aimed at the elderly or dissabled.
The concept behind the mobile shop is for basic nessecities such as toothpaste, bread, milk etc where people can't get to the shop or don't have the time.
My mobile shop is like a take-away. You ring up from a leaflet, give your order and within 15/20 minutes you have your goods. Theres nothing worse than settling down for the night and realising you have no milk or cigarettes or maybe you just want a couple of sweets and drink for the night?

I want to ask for your help. If you feel this is a good idea or not? would you use the mobile shop if it was up and running? If there's a process like this already out there? It's based for those living in HARLESDEN ONLY.

Please leave your views.

Retired Age is just a number

Hi All,

I'm 32, I live in north london and looking for an older female friend, someone older and wiser, who I can share a few laughs with over a nice quiet meal, turn to for advise, go out shopping with... I dont have a mum, or many older female relatives and have really missed this sort of female companionship. I dont think age should matter when it comes to friendships, because once we grow, life becomes more phased but we soon realise that how we felt inside at 20 is the same at 30 and 40, and 50 etc.. is it not? Email me  Mail-me

Retired Lawn Bowls Clubs

I recommend playing Lawn Bowls as an outlet. The sport is a good way of relieving the borderm of being at home all day, meeting people of ones' own age group, and occupying ones' mind for a few hours on a sunny afternoon for three/four hours per week. As we all know one thing leads to another so one could meet a partner or make a few friends for company. The sport may not be to everyone's taste, but take the positive option as one may be 50% right instead of 50% wrong. If you don't like the sport - don't go again, but on the other hand you may take to the sport and enjoy a lot of fun and company.

The computer database at your local library should be able to point you in the right direction; or get in touch with the English Bowling Association who would be able to refer you to your local club.

For me, taking up Lawn Bowls was one of my better decisions.

Retired LOOKING FOR LADY - AGE 60-65 TO DO AN INTERVIEW ON FUTURE OF WORK

Hi,
I am a design researcher at the Royal College of Art, London, doing research into ageing populations and future of work. For the project I have created new jobs for retired people, and would like to discuss with retired women, who might have been into any kind of organised office job at some point in their lives. I might do a very easy video interview mainly for my research work. A small fee could be negotiated. Please feel free to contact me at:  Mail-me
or call me on 07861 662677
