Deaf Deafened and learning BSL

I have been deafened and a hearing aid wearer for most of my life. I am about to start pre-level 2 BSL and would like to join a club and/or meet with people in a similar situation in or near Greenwich. I operate largely in the hearing world but often feel isolated and unable to communicate as I would wish in social situations where there is a lot of noise. Hearing people do not understand and there is a limit to how many times I feel comfortable asking people to repeat what they have said. I am very anxious to improve my signing skills and would love to meet with either hearing people who are learning BSL or deaf people who would be tolerant of my limited signing skills! I would love to be able to sign fluently; it is such an expressive and positive language!

Annette

Deaf ASL Terp coming to a BSL World

Hello all! I am an American Sign Language Interpreter. I and three other friends will be flying across "the big pond" to visit, among other sites, the great city of London June 26th through July 1st. Are there any Deaf events happening during that period? Are there any Deaf clubs we can visit? Any Deaf church services? Anything?? We want to mingle with the London Deaf community!

Deaf Work Experience/Volunteering

I have a deaf student who is at university and looking for unpaid work experience with the deaf community in the London area between 9th June and 23rd August.

I would really value any feedback from anyone who is aware of any clubs, groups, projects that run during the daytime that my student could then volunteer at. The student is studying British sign language. I have contacted the RNID and also the Royal Association for Deaf People and they haven't been able to provide any leads for me so any feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated. ( Mail-me ) Kind regards

Many thanks for any help with this.
