Book Clubs Bookclub in Southfields area

I've just moved to London and was wondering if anyone knows of any book clubs in the area. I work during the week so it would need to be in the evening or on the weekend.

Cheers

Book Clubs The Itchy Chin Club

Hello! This is a new non-fiction book club for people with a general interest in art, culture, politics, history and philosophy.

To get things started the first book will be Slavoj Žižek's In Defense of Lost Causes and the proposed first meet up date the 26th of August. I'll confirm the venue in the next week or two, but it will definitely be somewhere central in the WC1/EC1/N1 area - possibly at the Candid Arts Trust in Angel N1.

There's a blog with more background information and to keep people people up to date on plans:

itchychinclub.blogspot.com

Please feel free to drop me a line if you're interested, even if you can't make the first meet up.

Regards,

Christopher.

Book Clubs Historical Fiction Book Group

Seeking avid fans of historical fiction based in London who are interested in establishing a book group dedicated to this genre. Hoping to set up a book group where we would meet, maybe once every two months, to discuss a chosen historical novel.

This is a huge, diverse and increasingly popular genre. So whether it’s a zippy pageturner by Philippa Gregory or Bernard Cornwell, a classic by Robert Graves or a lengthy epic by James Michener or Edward Rutherfurd, there’s plenty for everyone.

If this sounds like something up your street, please get in touch by emailing me at  Mail-me  – especially if you have some experience of a book group – and tell me a bit more about your interest in historical novels.

Book Clubs Classics Book Club in Central London

Our fairly new Book Club is still open to new members. We aim to read 18th century to modern but not-extremely-recent classics.

Our meeting is on the 1st Monday evening of every month near Oxford Circus. Though we want to stay near Oxf. Circus, we are not entirely happy with our venue so we'd welcome any ideas for a good one in the area.

So far we've read:

*Lolita - Nabakov
*The Tenant of Wildfell Hall - Anne Bronte
*Madame Bovary - Flaubert
*No Name - Wilkie Collins

If you are interested  Mail-me  maybe mentioning something about what books interest you etc & I'll share it with the others and get back to you. We're not especially exclusive - it's just a matter of numbers.

Sheila

Book Clubs Book club in Hampstead

We are a book club that has been going for 1.5 years. We meet once a month on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.00 pm at the Flask in Hampstead for a chat and drinks. We have read non fiction, best sellers, penguin classics and autobiographies
Our next book is "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier. We would like to discuss this in conjunction with a film adaptation- Alfred Hitchcock directed one in 1940 - http://www.greatestfilms.org/rebec.html. So if you do get chance to watch the film, then all the better for the discussion!!
Our next genre will be "Junk" Biographies/Autobiographies - Geri Halliwell, Jordan, Russell Brand etc. We thought it would be quite fun to read something like this.
If this sounds of interest to you please feel free to join us on 7pm, Tues July 1st at The Flask, Flask Walk, Hampstead or contact me at  Mail-me  for more details.

Book Clubs Camden Book Club

There are a few of us resurrecting our lapsed NW London book club. We will be meeting monthly (likely to be Sunday afternoon) and will disscuss any book that's been voted for (a democratic free for all!)

It will be a very easy going, happy friendly group and will look forward to catching up with each other as much as disscussing the books.

Any happy, friendly, new people who'd like to join us are more than welcome.  Mail-me

Is anyone interested starting a book and beer club in Wandsworth with me?. The idea would be to meet up once a month in a pub and discuss the chosen book over a few beers. It would be very informal and relaxed. I just don't fancy starting it on my own. If keen get in touch.
