One is The Worple Group. They only exhibit, and before you can do this they vet your work. If it is not up to their required standard you do not get in. Quite demoralising!There is also The Wimbledon Art Club, but they also only exhibit, and again vetting. Merton Art Society does NOT vet. We are here to help and encourage, make contacts and friends. I'm based in the East Midlands and am going to apply to the RCA next year (academic year 09/10). I'm set up with a full time studio space already and as I have a young family in the area, relocation to London isn't really a solid option for me. However I would be able to commute to the college for mandatory lectures and then work full time in my already existing studio back home. I amd DEADLY serious about my artistic practice but I need to guage whether or not the RCA would reject me on the basis that I didnt 'live in' as it were...... Any thoughts or advice from folks who have had experience would be very, very welcome. Thanks Mail-me Post reply -->London Art and Artists cloughy 10 Aug ^ Art and Artists studying at the RCAAttending mandatory lectures might not be a problem for you, but it isn't really the issue - there won't be many lectures, and they'll mostly be concerned with theoretical and contextual matters. What is important is the chance to work alongside and with others, and to have in-studio contact with the tutors and your fellow students, to listen to, and think about their opinions, conceptions and perceptions and to test out your own in relation to them. That's something you'd really miss, and I suspect that the RCA admissions panel would want to take into account. If you're not going to work there, why bother to go to college? From the manner of your reply, you seem to understand the nature of working within a studio and I therefore assume that you appreciate the way in which the art industry functions when an individual is trying to make a living as a painter. To have RA or RCA on a your CV unquestionably sets you apart from many other artists. I would love to think that I could be judged upon my work rather than where I study my MA but from my experience so far I just dont think that is a realistic expectation........unfortunately.
