Employment WantedExperienced cleaner looking for new workHello! My name is Emma. I have been running a successful cleaning company in Suffolk. However, having recently moved to London, I am looking for work in the South East London area.
When employing a self-employed cleaner, you know you will be getting a standard of work that you could not expect from an agency. I am punctual & reliable, & I offer a friendly, high quality cleaning service. I will clean your house until it sparkles!
I charge a reasonable hourly rate, or, if you prefer, I can come and quote you a price to clean the entire house - this way, you pay the same amount each time however long it takes. I can provide references if required.
I am available to start immediately. Please Mail-me if you would be interested. Many thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Buy and SellExtending dining table and 6 chairsSelling an extendable Dining Room Table & 6 Chairs (Beech) Details of table: Dimensions: 74cm high, 89.5 cm wide Length: not extended - 136cm (6 people) 1 end extended - 186.5cm (7/8 people) 2 ends extended - 238cm (8/10 people) The table does have a few marks in the centre of the table which can be covered up with a table runner. We did this and it looked great with a table runner on it. It's a great table as you can easily seat 8+ people. Extending sections slide out when required.
Chairs: Very attractive, good quality, sturdy wooden chairs from 'The Pier' that'll last a lifetime. They aren't those types of chairs you get from most stores that become rickety after a year of use.

To tell you a little about myself, I am 23 and will be studying MA Producing Film and Television in the Autumn. So I'd like to meet people, who enjoy all kinds of cinema for regular outings and then go for a drink after and chat about the movie etc.
I live in West London and most commonly go to cinewmas in West/Central London, would like to go to more, different cinemas.
Anyways if that sounds like something you'd be into or something indeed that you already do, get in touch my email is Mail-me or you can visit my blog kicktelevision.co.uk, I've recently relaunched it so feel free to comment. Luke 23 Jul |
PlumsteadTescoI can see only one winner with the mega Tesco in Woolwich and that will be Tesco to the detriment of all others. I think it will suck even more life from the market and high street and from the shops in Plumstead and Thamesmead.
Greenwich Council do not have a great record when it comes to regeneration in the area. The Royal Arsenal site seems OK because Berkeley seem to have almost full control down there. Where the council have had projects with other developers such as in the centre of Woolwich and Thamesmead there have been massive problems. DK 23 Jul |
Woolwichcontinued Right now, there are probably areas close by which offer better value for money and a better quality of life (areas south, south east, and south west of Woolwich), or you may strike lucky and settle in a nice house with good neighbours and an easy journey to work as we did.
Personally I would not buy down by the river, as being at the base of the valley the air can get very stifling, hard to breathe and feel very polluted when the weather is warm and still (not really a problem this year!! ;-) ), but that is more of a personal thing related to my own health. There is definitely more "air" on the slopes south of the town centre.
It probably all depends on what you want and what you need, if you're thinking for the short or long term, and you will have to trust your instinct. DK 23 Jul |
WoolwichWoolwichLike many parts of London, Woolwich can vary a lot from street to street. There are parts I wouldn't go day or night, parts I wouldn't go at night, and parts I am happy to be at any time. Most of Woolwich is very definitely "urban" (and not "suburban") and has the problems and challenges urban areas face. It depends on which part of Woolwich you are looking, your budget and your lifestyle.
I have been in the area for over 10 years, and the big downside is that during that time Woolwich has almost exclusively been on a downwards spiral (OK there are a few exceptions) and I use the town centre less and less and never use it socially. On the upside, there are some new developments and the DLR should start to improve things, but there is a long long way to go. DK 23 Jul |
WoolwichI am worried that the planned huge Tesco will just suck all remaining life out of the high street and local shops. Woolwich also needs more than shops, cafes and restaurants. It needs jobs and not just low paid ones. DK 23 Jul |

BermondseyCar Boot SaleHi
There is a car boot sale every Wednesday and Sunday at the Fisher Club on Salter Road london SE16 - 23 Jul |
BermondseyHi
I live in Grange Road and Grange Walk is just down the road. There are very high class apartments in Grange Walk and the new apartments there are called Amisha Court. This block of apartments that have just gone up has an advertisement that a "posh" coffee shop will be opening soon beneath these apartments. The property in Grange Road is very expensive and it is very central and I come from Bermondsey and went to school here and would not live anywhere else, having moved back after moving out of London. You are as safe as anywhere you can be in today's world, unfortunately, 23 Jul |
BermondseyThe pub you are referring to is now a solicitors office and the company is now called Castle & Grange (I guess for being on Grange Road) 23 Jul |
Book ClubsThe Itchy Chin ClubHello! This is a new non-fiction book club for people with a general interest in art, culture, politics, history and philosophy.
To get things started the first book will be Slavoj ˇi˛ek's In Defense of Lost Causes and the proposed first meet up date the 26th of August. I'll confirm the venue in the next week or two, but it will definitely be somewhere central in the WC1/EC1/N1 area - possibly at the Candid Arts Trust in Angel N1.
There's a blog with more background information and to keep people people up to date on plans:

Please feel free to drop me a line if you're interested, even if you can't make the first meet up.

TravelHeathrow to O2If you are staying at a hotel, you will probably need to use Hatton Cross or Hounslow West Underground stations (you may need to use a local bus to get to them - your hotel will be able to advise). Take the Piccadilly Line to Green Park, change there to the eastbound Jubilee Line which will take you to North Greenwich for the O2. It's quite a way so allow a good hour-and-a-half. Buy an all-zones Travelcard to cover the journey.
An alternative is to get a bus into Heathrow Central, take the Heathrow Express to Paddington, the Undergound Bakerloo Line to Baker Street then the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich. This route will be slightly quicker but much more expensive as Travelcards are not valid on Heathrow Express. Julian & Phil 23 Jul |

I think I'll try someone who know's what they're talking about rather than giving my money away to ungrateful plumbers.

KilburnRowley WayI have just read through the postings on Rowley Way and just don't recognise the descriptions some people have of the place. I have lived on the estate for four years with my young family and love the place. We know loads of our neighbours (it's the friendliest place I have ever lived by far), my partner comes back at all hours and we don't feel threatened. Sure there are problems sometimes, but I have lived all over London, on estates and in "nice" victorian roads and all have their ups and downs. As for people not wanting to live here, perhaps it's just coincidence, but of all the people I know here I haven't met any who want to leave (unless they need more space for a growing family). Infact I know lots of people who have bought flats on the estate and love it, (so that estate agent is doing himself out of some money, a rare breed of estate agent!). It seems to me that the place really suffers from a bad reputation which in my experience is unfounded. mat 22 Jul |

MusiciansPiano Teacher SoughtAny piano teachers in N4? I'm an absolute beginner but I have fingers, a brain and heaps of keen-ness (and my own 6-octave piano).
I need to learn all the basics, but I also want to progress towards a certain style of playing (Gershwin/music hall). I appreciate that this will take time and effort. If you'd like to help me learn, get in touch with your availability and rates. Lessons will take place in my flat, with coffee/tea/gin and tonic laid on.

WillesdenSt Marys Mother and baby homeAnn, this baby home you refer was near Stoke Newington. It was actually located at 153 Stamford Hill, Hackney. My mother stayed there between late 1953 and early 1954 and had a baby boy who, very sadly, was given away for adoption as she felt there was no other choice. Of course it closed long ago in 1973, and we are trying to track records from the St Mary's convent who now hold all files from the previous mother and baby home of the same name. If you are seeking records St Mary's Convent, Challow, Wantage, Oxfordshire. They have email and phone number details too. If you are keen to pursue this I am happy to pass them on. My email is Mail-me I am very keen to find out if certain adoption agencies were used by this home as my mother can't remember the name of the one used by her but believed it to be run by the Catholic Church.

Lost and FoundI have lost a baggageGood morning, Upon my return to France, I forgot a backpack of the eastpack black mark in the boarding lounge. It was July 10, 2008, there was no name, but here is what it contained: women golden shoes, books travel (the Guide du Routard on cananda), 2 balls baseball ball of my children memories of holidays to which they were enormously, an empty plastic box, a woman's blouse white striped blue, a book in french: violins of the king, a rumikub and certainly other items that I can not remember more. If you found me thank you advise me and send it to this address: Ms. MORALI ODILE 320 RUE DE NEGUELOU 30133 LES ANGLES FRANCE Here my phone number: 06 66 32 26 99 I thank you in advance and I count on your understanding and your professionalism. footballFootball for the ChildrenHello
My name is Paul Hewer and I am currently organising a day tournament of five aside football for charity. The Charity we are raising money for is Great Ormand Street Children’s Hospital. I am looking for two five aside football pitches that we can hire for the day. We will also be requiring somewhere to consume food and drink for that day, we can organise that ourselves but it would be better if we could come to an arrangement with you to do that for us within the agreement of a days hire of the football pitches.
Please could you tell us what dates you can do for us in the month of September and what facilities you are able to provide? You can contact me either on this email address Mail-me or by calling 0207 400 2831
I look forward to hearing from you very soon and thank you in advance for your assistances in this request.
Kind regards
Paul Hewer

BermondseyNot so much a sell out as a combined merger with many independant can making factories up and down the country. This was due to the serious risk of being put out of business by American Can who tried to muscle in in the the 1930s. The merger was masterminded by Robert Barlow who ran Barlows can making factory in Hackney. Roger Fillary 22 Jul |

PetsBIG GUARD Dog needs a new homeCane is a sandy colured very handsome dog:- half ridgeback and half staff. He needs a new home with a strong owner as his handler but with people that will care for him. I do not even want to get rid of him i have had him for 5 years now but i am pregnant and he will get jealous of the baby so i just have to let him go. I do not wish him to go to a bad home. He is very smart and fully trained in all ways. He just does not other dogs at all. So he must be the only dog. He will need to live in a secure home or a home without a short fence in a garden as he will jump over the fence if it is too short. Mail-me jackie 21 Jul |

WoolwichHi, I actually think Woolwich is not too bad. I am female and mid-twenties and often have to walk home in the dark, and have not yet had any trouble (been living here a year). Some areas are worse than others and there are estates to avoid but I think overall for the price of property, and investment potential I think it is worth it. Susie 21 Jul |

Book ClubsHistorical Fiction Book GroupSeeking avid fans of historical fiction based in London who are interested in establishing a book group dedicated to this genre. Hoping to set up a book group where we would meet, maybe once every two months, to discuss a chosen historical novel.
This is a huge, diverse and increasingly popular genre. So whether it’s a zippy pageturner by Philippa Gregory or Bernard Cornwell, a classic by Robert Graves or a lengthy epic by James Michener or Edward Rutherfurd, there’s plenty for everyone.
If this sounds like something up your street, please get in touch by emailing me at Mail-me – especially if you have some experience of a book group – and tell me a bit more about your interest in historical novels.
